Lighting in such a space is important--task lighting--not general lighting. The worst thing you could do in such a space is to rely on ceiling-mounted light of any kind.

Whatever you buy, put low-lumen bulbs in it and just use it for navigating the space. Rely on sconces and table/floor lamps for task lighting.

I would get something white to replace that chandelier. The black just draws attention to it and makes it look crooked because of the sloped ceiling.

You aren't showing the entire space. I would add sconces at the built in bench first. I'd put a cover plate on the one hanging and eliminate, or add recessed to the room.. Ceiling lights are ambient light , not task.

Add lamps to wherever you need the light...floor lamps or table lamps. Be sure bulb type, wattage and shade give you the light you need. The black lamps shades should be replaced with white shades at a minimum.

It needs chain..........or the ability to concert a stem to slope with ball attachment. Styling depends the rest of your HOME. Shades of Light, all below. Watch your dimensions.

Ps! Leave the black lampshades! :) They are a nice focal point. No gain of any huge nature will be made in a switch .
