It's not a moth....but I don't k ow what it is.

Indian meal moth is the culprit. Now I need to get something to kill them.

Poison is not reported to work well and difficult to use as they are in your food. Check out sticky traps with a pheromone lure.

Gary, be sure to do your homework! You will be doing a lot of discarding and cleaning in the upcoming days.

I don't envy you the job of getting rid of the problem. You will have examine anything and everything that the tiny larvae devour or you will never get rid of the moths. Be relentless.

Look into the pantry for infested flour, pasta, cereal, snacks, rice, dry pet food, bird seed, peanut butter, and anything else you can think of. The tiny larvae can bore their way into unopened bags, boxes, and even closed jars of peanut butter.

My cupboards are full of opened/unopened boxes of flour, cereals, pasta, cake mixes, rice, hamburger-helper, Betty Crocker Potato Buds, crackers, etc.

I never use any of them any more so maybe I should throw everything out -- then put bric-a-brac items in the closets

I strongly suggest that you should toss everything, sorry. Many years ago, I started seeing a few of these little moths in my apartment and didn't think anything about it.

One afternoon, I was making a big pot of chili for my college flatmates and it had been simmering for a couple of hours. I like to put barley in my chili to cook for the last hour or so and reached into my cupboard for the little box and poured some of the little grains into the steaming pot of delicious chili.

Only there was a bunch of those maggoty larvae that fell into the chili, too.

These types of moth traps work great. I rarely see moths, but the traps get filled up eventually. I believe these are the larvae that make spidery webs and dried goods clump.
