I'd put a small round game table in that space. As far as bar stools, what about ghost stools from CB2? They're actually called Vapor stools.

Along with the bar stools, what about an end table with a nice lamp. I see you have a dog, what about a nice Duluxe dog bed. Perhaps a large plant, it looks like you may have a green thumb?

it would be a dining zone...unless there is a dining room elsewhere. look for a drop leaf pedestal table.....if you are not in need of it, I would get it anyway...with no light fixture hanging down, and a pedestal base , you can push it to the side a bit. You would end up using it.....and when people are over you will start to use it....you can do things at it with computer/etc. You can lay out food when folks are around, now that you've done a good job and have a place to show off. . It's a light airy space....get a table, but one that is flexible, as it is not a huge space. [lots of tables /chairs on craigs list-very reasonable too] Love the windows....when there is a sale at lowes or similar....look into "top down/bottom up" cellular shades for the windows. I think the light and view can still be enjoyed and you'd get privacy with flexible adjustments they allow....bring some sample books home. ..have a sister or friend or mom help you find the best ones . That is an investment: not super cheap, but would give you benefit.

In fact, I would suggest finding some artwork you really love first, then using that to inform your choices re stools (and pillows, and maybe rug.)

You have made your area a lovely space. I think an end table with a lamp would complete the look next to the sofa. maybe something with some metal to mix it up a little from the dark colouring and a lamp. Don't second guess yourself with bar stools. Choose something with a back that you like.

What's great about your kitchen, is that you can do almost anything, as it's fairly neutral.

Is this going to be an area that you will spend a lot of time at? If so, always go for something comfortable. Typically comfortable means padded seats, backrests, and swivel. Of course, everyone is different.

Once you're able to determine which bar stool features are best for you, then you can certainly narrow things down from there.

Here's a couple of ideas on which ones would look gorgeous in there, but they're two completely different stools. Both comfortable, but one gives you a swivel and one is stationary.
