Call a designer and look for ideas here.

Also start gathering picture's of something you would love to have and some of what you don't like. I did that when I did my bath and I was able to show what I wanted and what I didn't want.

One room at a time, ritagaller, with a list of prioritized wants for each. That in hand, make an appt. w a designer or architect. Starting an ideabook -or several- help lots of Houzzers gain focus when starting a process, and can be shared with whatever pro you speak to for additional guidance. If you decide at that point to take on some of the work yourself, you'll find support for specific problems here. Good luck!

Hi ritagaller, I would suggest a list of wants and needs and a list of haves and don't haves before heading off to a designer. Once you have at least marginal definitions of how transform your home, dream big, regardless of cost. Then begin seriously editing your lists to determine, for instance, if you really need that 2000 sf outdoor kitchen. Determine your budget, withholding at least 20% for the inevitable changes. Give the 80% total to an architect or designer that you have interviewed and have come to trust, ask for help achieving your dream. Interview and obtain the services of a contractor to help with budgeting during the design process (most designers and architect's have knowledge of marketplace costs but contractors know cost and alternatives..it is all they do). Pay the contractor for their time. Just like any professional. Be prepared to either grow the budget "box" or throw out some really cherished hopes to make the budget work. Become empowered by educating yourself about products and materials, about design and construction technique, about building science and technology. Just like going to the doctor, the patient/client that is part of the conversation gets better treatment and better service. Best of luck!

I see lots of pictures with hardwood in the kitchen. Any thoughts on the best type of wood and how to maintain it in the kitchen area. I would like to have same flooring throughout the house.
