Fall Garden Gleaning

Yesterday evening I had time to glean for makings to use for our supper. It was cool and the sun was setting. I actually wore my coat. I was amazed at all I found, often from plantings which supposedly expired months ago.

Here's a photo of what I brought to the kitchen and another of what I made (stir fry).

I wrote about it this morning in a blog post.

I grow "Highland shrimp", they make mounds all over my lawn. they sure rough on lawn mower blades.

What a lovely meal from your gleanings. I grew shrimp plant (Justica brandegeana) when we lived in Fort Worth. It gave us lovely flowers but never gave us lovely shrimp like yours. : )

Every time I've walked by my planting of Tennessee Cutshort Pole beans I've been able to stuff my pockets with more drying pods. Last night, as it was getting dark, I couldn't get back to them, so I will have lost some seed. But I'm pleased that, just in the last couple of days, I've harvested and shelled more seed than I normally plant. Besides this, the seed has come from the entire planting, not just the tripod I had dedicated for seed. This seed has a nice wide gene pool.

Last night I harvested Tarahumara Pink Green Bean and yanked all my "seed plants" of Barksdale Wax Pole Bean. Now I just need to be working at picking the pods out of the vines, shelling, drying and storing seed.
