Door Conundrum - Thoughts?

Any advice on a front door color and side entry door to garage color? Both face the street in addition to the garage door. Renovation happening now:

  • Siding: Pacific Blue from Monogram (very gray blue)
  • Windows: Black double hung - with clear bottom half, top half with 3 light panels (2 grilles) with white trim
  • Garage Door: Composite wood look (called "Cedar") - already installed
  • Front Door: HELP! Wood color Fruitwood stain from MMI Doors, Craftsman style with no dentil shelf, 3 light panel (2 grilles) OR BLACK color
  • Side Door to Garage: HELP! Wood color Fruitwood stain from MMI Doors, same as above, or BLACK to coordinate with windows.
  • Foundation: (unsure still) - grayish tones or beige/gray tones fieldstone

ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!

Wow, this will be a real facelift -- good for you! I'd vote to repeat the garage door color in the front door, and combine beige and gray tones in foundation to pull the colors together more. Garage side door seems most awkward problem -- can't tell because photo cuts off, can't see opposite side.

Mary - thank you so much! Can you see the garage door in the larger photo of the house for more context? The other side of the garage entry door is the foundation (currently a grotesque shade of light brown) and will eventually be some sort of stone.

Like your new garage door! Immediate thoughts:

    1) you don't want to draw attention to the side door, which may already lead guests astray. I'd paint it to blend into the siding much as now. nothing fancy for sure -- I'd be tempted to use a slab door with no window.

    2) no shutters on that big bay window on the left, or on the set of low windows to the basement (?). they could never close across the windows in question, and thus look tragically out of place.

I think I'd do a natural wood door if it would match the garage door tonally; otherwise either black or a pop of color. You might wait until you have the siding updated and then decide.

Paint the side door the same color as the siding so it will disappear. Proportions wrong for shutters on the picture window and four panel window. Gable trim over front door doesn't fit either mid-century modern or craftsman. Nice mix of plants across front.

I would do a flat steel door for the garage and paint it to match the siding as suggested. Let the pretty garage door be the star. Then the front door in wood as well. I agree with removing all the shutters, along with the frieze boards, dentil molding and pediment over the door. Black light fixture and either stained wood handrail or black iron in a simple style.

Different opinion here. I love your garage door. But it seems small when balancing it with your living room window area. I would lose the white trim for darker paint around the garage door and the garage access door. I would have a wooden garage access door that matches your garage door to add visually to that area.
