are these in a retro/vintage home that you're trying to match?

they do make porcelain bricks, but that particular finish looks like something from the 60's-70's

Size is 3.5"x7.5". I opened up a wall in my 1981 contemporary home. I changed the layout of our kitchen. I thought I could pull some from another location to fill where a wall was, but I cannot get them up intact.

So far, I have a custom concrete guy trying to replicate them for me in concrete, but I know that there are many 80s contemporary home owners on here. Maybe someone else has run into this.

amanda, if it's a tract home, you may want to ask other people on your block. maybe they have some? I know the builder used the same materials in all of the homes on in my neighborhood.

Thank you Beth. There are two other homes I can try asking. I know they do not currently have this tile in them, but maybe they did at one time.

More info: The back of the tiles say "Mirage Made in Italy". Te one was built in 1980.

It may be time to cover the whole floor with LVP or Marmoleum.

Could you “mix and match”?

Well, I found tiles that are the same size and texture. I am hand painting them with color matched paint and sealing with concrete sealer. We have already done over 2000sf of hickory floors in the house. When we can, we will float the same floors over the whole first floor as well. But for now, I am going to patch the tile I have made to match.

As mentioned previously, I found the same SIZE tile, and have handpainted them and sealed them to "match". It is really close. Can you find my hand painted tile? I have completed 30, and that is about how many I will need. I will hand paint the grout once they are in with flat paint as well.

I should talk about WHY and HOW I did this here in case anyone attempts a project like this in the future. WHY: We removed a wall, exposing about 15sf of floor area with no floor tile in a 1980 contemporary home. Those 15sf were part of 800sf in the same flooring including the foyer, bathrooms, laundry area, hallway, kitchen, and closets. STYLE: This flooring is NOT like every other thing in every other home. It is vintage. It is real tile. It is in good condition. It sets the stage to contrast with new/modern that brings in some age and funky feel. Its indestructable. It is arguably ugly to many, but I was planning for this floor in my design--to complement with modern natural wood elements and white. COST: Ideally, if I were to replace this floor, I would float hickory over not only those 800sf, but an adjacent 1000sf as well to create one seamless, transition-less area. That comes with significant cost I was not planning for now. So, if you find yourself in a similar scenario, here is the HOW. 1) find any tile in the same SIZE and TEXTURE you need to match. (My tile was 3.5"x7.5" light grey. I found it at the local ReStore) 2)HomeDepot color match paint to the color of your tile (I used 3 colors plus black and tan to tint/shade as needed here in flat finish. I only needed the "sample size" paint) 3)Paint the tile to match the style of your existing tile 4) Seal with concrete sealer.

i'd say, 2nd row from bottom, 2 from the right. but it's an almost perfect match, so great job. no one will know

I will post again when the tile is all installed, as well as the whole kitchen, done with 100% salvage materials, in the BEFORE/AFTER projects when we are done. :) Thanks everyone!
