Kitchen layout- Help!

last modified: 7 years ago

Trying to figure out our kitchen with our builder has been a nightmare. They are now trying to charge us 5,000 for changes to the standard layout. I've attached the standard layout through the first photo the photos after that are the changes we have made- they are - changing a set up drawers to a pullout trashcan, adding a tilt drawer in front of sink, add light rail molding (no lights) under cabinetry, making one cabinet smaller to place a small microwave under it. Moved cabinets to the left of sink and above original microwave hood to in the island where there is dead space because we increased the island side by 1 ft. depth wise yet also decreased it by 1 ft depth width wise. I just don't understand how this is all worth 5,000. Additionally the are trying to charge us 3,900 for the hood cover. We also lost the cabinet to the right of the window since we made a larger window.

Also, after going appliance shopping we are thinking we should have done a double wall oven. I have a bad back and thought I would be happy enough with the 30 in double oven range. Now we a realizing with our kids in the kitchen, all the hosting and my back perhaps we should have gotten the double oven. The builder puts the double oven where we have the small microwave now leaves only like 12 inches on the side. I didn't like the oven over here. Now last night we realized we could have put it to the left of the range like the photo below. The door opening in our kitchen goes to the formal dining room. They already put the gas line in for the range so we would need to pay to have that moved and of course pay for the change to the chef's kitchen they require with the double oven.

The other question I have is do we do a double oven like the one shown above or do we do one that would include a microwave so we didn't have to put it where we have it now.

Finally, we would loose the cabinet where we planned to put the plates with the double wall oven. That means we could put the plates in the opening shelving we planned to put in on top of the dishwasher (which is not as convenient for me when serving the kids at the island), under the oven which is awkward when people need a plate or bowl and I am cooking, or in the island which is also awkward.

The double oven range that we picked out is this one. It allows a lot of room in the top oven, which may be good enough for me. Just doesn't allow other people to be working in the oven when I'm at the stove.

Thank you in advance SO much for your help! This has been such a difficult process for us!
