What to do with this TINY entryway?

We live in a very old house that has a small, narrow entryway. Once the addition that we're building is finished, this entryway will only be used for guests and all of the shoes, etc. will go into a separate mudroom. I'm wondering what, if anything, I should do with this entryway as a seldom-used entrance? The door near the window is to the basement but it can be blocked off because we will have a different stairway going to the basement in the new addition. The hallway leading to the window is about 3.5' wide and the length from front door to the window is just over 16'. Do I ever bother putting artwork on the wall? What about a carpet on the floor? Is the hallway too narrow for a small table? I'd love to get some suggestions on how to make this tiny space more hospitable. Thanks!
