The unfortunate scenario where we were having our second level original hardwoods refinished and the unexpected happened. While removing a stubborn piece of plywood, the contractor hit a water pipe that then allowed for water to saturate our ceiling, main level floors and basement. The contractor’s insurance is covering the replacement of our main level floors. This is engineered Brazilian cherry (I think). I had no intention of changing this flooring any time soon. We’ve only lived in the house a year, but I would guess that the floor is 10 years old. The water damage service company pulled up the damaged floors to make sure the subfloor could be completely dried out. Not salvageable. The rest doesn’t look bad.

Designers or owners of early 1900’s craftsman homes, what would you do? Replace it all with a similar floor, replace only the dining room with something complementary, or replace with some other type of floor.
