bugs in soil! help please

last modified: 7 years ago

I have been noticing TINY beetle looking bugs in the soil of several of my plants. It actually looks like there might be two different kinds. Most of the plants seem unfazed but a handful have not been thriving and seem to be prone to other infestations (spider mites or scale primarily). Most of these little guys and beige/cream colored, but i have seen them in dark brown/black, burgundy, and the ones i snapped pics of today look like a metallic grey.

Does anyone know what they might be, if they are harmful or how to get rid of them? Much thanks!

(To give you a sense of how small they are the photo below was taken with a macro lens and further magnified to 2.5x)
