Are these listing photos of a house you just purchased? Yes, the walls need to be painted, are new floors also in the plan? What is your style? Lighting is so personal, hard to give you ideas if this is not your style.

Too much dingle dangle from the ceiling

Flooring/back splash and counters are not playing together nicely at all ...

I don't think a hardware change will help much. You are already in two different warm/cool palettes, and they are FIGHTING one another.. Start the piggy bank ? Post a photo close up of the counter, and floor and splash?

The fix is a perimeter cabinet paint job by a pro, a flooring change, back splash change and a lot of electrical work, and then the wall paint. Sorry.......: (

"dingle dangle"- I hope Jan trademarked that. I was going to say it looks like a lighting showroom- way too many lights hanging from the ceiling. I would only have pendants over the island and the table and switch all the rest out for cans and led strips under the upper cabinets. Otherwise what is your budget for other changes? Floors are a big item visually and for the budget but would transform the space if you could change them. I would paint the perimeter cabinets and likely keep the island wood (the color looks a little funny but I'm sure that is just the photo.

Counter on island looks to be different than the other countertops?? The perimeter counter tops, look more brown toned. The island could be painted to match the cabinets, and a new countertop put on it, and that would help a bit, since the existing island countertop, appears to be more gray, and really does not go with anything else. I agree, too many dangly lights, but, thats a very easy change. The color on the walls, does not go with your kitchen. Try a light blue, or blue green, or a light green color on the walls. The floor and backsplash do go together somewhat, and even though, I personally do not like the color of the cabinets, the floors and backsplash seem to look ok with them. Its the island and the island countertop, and too many danglng light fixtures plus the wall paint that throw things off.

Kinda a mish mash of styles going on.

The sink position on the island is a headscratcher. With this layout looking completely dysfunctional, I'd be leery about spending too much on aesthetics.

I agree with everything Jan said. Also, if your goal is to get rid of the yellow, ain't nothing for it but to repaint the cabinets -- that's just way too much yellow to hide by touches elsewhere. I'd start a savings account (plan on 5-10k for a decent job, maybe less if you put a door on the pantry instead of repainting there) and in the meantime, make the most of it by bringing in some blue for a cheery French feel.

Yes, this is a house I am buying. I agree with the lighting comments. I plan on keeping the backsplash and the floor as is. With that in mind, does anyone have suggestions for paint colors for the wall and the cabinets (keeping the hardware as is would be a plus). Not sure what to do about the wood island as I don't love the way it is currently. Thanks!

Also note that we are keeping the kitchen table and fixture but getting new chairs.

Pick some color from your floor.

This color of cabinets seems to help blend different elements - notice the grayer backsplash but warm floor. it also looks pretty with wood. I would consider it for the cabinets.

I would start with painting the cabinets. Getting rid of the glaze will really freshen the space.

Another thought is to go with a soft white - goes with everything - and paint the walls a gray / green. This pic shows a good blend of warm and cool elements.:

I would consider your backsplash the least in working towards a space you are happy with. Changing it out will be a less expensive fix then the floor and it is not such a problem as it could not wait a few years till the budget is better.

We could all lie and make you happy? I say don't do one thing for six months! Why? It will make you see the issues here. Just WAY too much going on!

Paint the walls with a white shade, that should help your get rid of some yellow. Consider changing the pendant lights as well since they also add yellow to the room. And regarding the hardware, maybe you could use a darker color so it’s not too pale.

The most recent photo is an inspiration photo, I think. Not the current kitchen.

A creamy white might work for the cabinets. But I'd give some though to changing out that splash. Travertine is hard to work with, because it's such a pinky-beige. And it might not be that horrifyingly expensive to change out just that splash for something simple. Cream square tiles, maybe, in a Flemish bond pattern?

It is like the owners just walked through a showroom pointing at various items - "I like that, and that, and ooh, that one..." Way too much! That island was mostly for the sake of having a big island, I think, because it doesn't seem to be an efficient working layout for the kitchen overall. Perhaps it could be reoriented so the sink/dw face the rest of the kitchen -- check to see if the PO still has some of the floor tile kept back since the floor would need piecing in.

Enough with the critique, sorry. I do agree with the previous suggestions about the lights and changing the backsplash if you can.

I also like that green that jhmarie posted. That would be very nice, I think, on the cabinets, or perhaps in a paler shade on the walls.

I think the Martha Stewart colors can still be mixed by other retailers (mine was matched in SW even though sold by Home Depot) -- see if you can get a sample of Gull, which is an off white. I think it might work with the floor and cabinets without bringing out the pink too much.
