Cool about the flag leaf. I'm wondering if I might get a flag on my big banana, because it's two years old now, and the last time it fruited, it was really late in the year.

That pigeon pea is HUGE! Mine all froze to death last year, and the ones I planted this year didn't grow well at all. I'm hoping to keep them alive so they can grow more next year. Yes, bees do love them, which is why I want to have more.

Mine like to wait till its gonna start getting cold then send out flags. Its annoying because the nanners wont make it. Ours freeze to the ground here in cold winters. I have some new varieties this year in the ground. They spend last winter in the gh. We will see if they can return next spring or not.

Sultry, last year, I was surprised mine didn't freeze to the ground, although it did lose every single leaf. I think the only thing that saved it was that it was right up next to the house. I have three tiny babies that I got to come up from an old, rotted corm that I need to dig and pot so they won't die this year. They didn't grow much, because they didn't have that mama root system to support them, but I'm sure they'll do really well in pots next year. They seem to be water suckers, though, so they'll be slow-growing and fruiting anyway.

DG those pigeon pea's are about 12 feet tall and I am hoping they don't get frozen. The banana has been in the ground 3years its the first flagleaf since I moved to this house. So many trees are starting to produce.

Sultry I'm worried about the bananas getting frost bite but most years we don't get a hard freeze. How ever those trees are in the most protected spot in the yard so I'm hoping they make it. There's no power over there so I can't put Xmas lights on them. And I do have some old pillow cases to cover with.

First lemons from my free ponderosa lemon tree. It has been in the ground 2 year so glad to have this type of lemon again

I had a client throw it in the trash because it had greening but what was wrong was it was infested with leaf bores. I bought it home and descovered there were 2 growing in the pot so I separated them and gave it a good spray. And they took of growing with great viger. I sold 1 and keep 1 so I actually made a profit. The tree is now 10ish feet tall and produced 5 lemons this year. Not bad for a tree that was 18in when I got it.

What a great story! I love getting plants like that. The Dancy tangerine at my old house was originally priced at $75 at the garden center where I usually shopped, but it was half dead. The worker offered it to me for $25, and I thought about it, but said no. I knew that if they were willing to sell it that cheap, it would be in the dumpster soon, and I was right. I went by there after work and there it was, in the dumpster, along with a key lime in the same shape. I took them both home, planted and babied them, and had fruit for years to come.

By the maps 9b however that same map has 10a about a mile east of me and I have found on most things I need to treat things like im 10a.

Glen, it is looking like I will be getting my third bunch of Dwarf Cavendish in about 30 years. Of course, we could have a freeze before they are ready.

Thanks Glenn. Years ago a friend gave me 2 Ponderosa lemons, I planted the seeds and have 4 trees now,

Mostly Cavendish and Lady fingers.

I got 3 banana bunches ripening on the same plant, watching every day, it is almost there.:)

That's the thing with home garden bananas, they're a famine or glut crop. You either have nothing, or you have more than you know what to do with.

We freeze the extras. They are great for smoothies.

I hate to tell guys but my banana bread is the best that I have ever tried! lol

And I have people waiting for them, I will be baking 24/7 soon....Once they are done, they get put in the freezer to give them away and for family I will be making the one with the best chocolate that I can find.:)

I am look farward to these bananas they will be the first at this house. I have missed my home grown bananas so much. Store bought just is not the same.

Jofus I to have five types. A ice-cream, a dwarf Cavendish, a apple, a praying hands and a unknown that I found on the side of the road. I will be adding my last the gros Michels when I get the chance. I have found a local who has them and will pick up one as soon as possible. I don't remember how tall they get and that will make a difference on where I plant it.
