TV Stand /Console Wisdom

We are new to all this with the big tv's and just got a 50 inch which is now mounted on the wall. I looked and researched and took all the advice in, and we mounted it at about 38 inches from the floor. It does seem very comfortable to watch it sitting in the couch, the chair , and the other couch so that part I am pleased with.

I am looking for something to put under it, to house the cable box, and perhaps can be used for display, almost like a breakfront or for books etc.

Our wood furniture in the room is a medium brown (maybe fruitwood or pecan?). The seating (which will be here for a while but who knows) is beloved navy.

Floor is light, fireplace mantle is white wood-with black slate hearth and face. surround.

My style is basically traditional/transitional.

Sitting on the couch, one can view the kitchen seating area which has farmhouse table with cherry ish top and white legs and same for chairs. (so every finish is pretty well represented lol)

So, do I try to get a medium wood color for the tv stand, or does black make more sense (kind of melding with the black of the tv). Maybe the answer is to go with my preference, but I frequently get a revelation AFTER I have acted so I am reaching out for your wisdom.

Also, I am baffled by the height. At first I was looking for the lower ones, as I though the ones that are 35 inches high might look too close but no cigar. I think the lower ones also would allow to put some decorative things on top and still not visually crowd the tv but again, I don't know.

Any wisdom to share?

Pictures are needed in order to get appropriate advice.

was hesitating posting pix because we are still settling in and it's certainly a work in progress. (the hot pink bean bag is for the new pooch as are all the toys scattered around. )The magazine rack under the tv is of course VERY TEMPORARY and NOT a beloved memento.

    Here is the fireplace...

to the right, is a window and and the tv wall where I would like put some sort of piece under the tv (and get the wires hidden and all sorts of nice things).
and here is a pic of the sofa and the wood in the room. there is also a similar glass topped on wood base coffee table.
and finally, Wally. We are going to change the carpeting but since Wally is still quite new, no rush for that as yet!!!

So now that I have bared my soul (and my not ready for prime time room) can you help a lady out?
What would you suggest and by all means, if you want to post pix of recommendations I would certainly welcome it. I am all over the place trying to figure it out and I am getting so anxious about not deciding anything.

And might I add, I have no idea how this got posted to the Azalea forum lol lol lol.

I would try to get a table about as long as the TV and low, not quite as low as the one there now. But it would give space for display on top. Either black or matching wood would work. I personally would probably go black or dark.

I don't know if these match the wood or style but it gives you an idea of what I am thinking.

I personally really like this one. It comes in 2 different colors. I would buy it if I had a place for it lol

Thank you Raven--- I think I am not a fan of MCM in general but those were nice.

The second one you posted is really so nice, but those colors totally don't work. So back to the suggesting board.

The magazine rack table that is there is approx 21 inches high.

I have been browsing (it's my occupation lol) a lot and you know how that goes where there's always the next and the next and then I forget what I found.

Thanks Bunny--- I started out ruling out the black and looking for wood, but I was concerned that the close but no cigar thing might apply, The wood is also of course hard to read sometimes in photos online so black is black and also there is expresso ?

Just for starters I still cannot quite figure out if I just want a plain thing or a bit more.

I figure I will just link a few and see what feedback I get because at this point I just can't think straight.

    for example

one- LAMANTIA TV STAND this one might be too large? it is 26 high 59 wide 18 deep (also comes in light cherry)

two- BRISTOL 26 high 49 wide by 19 deep

threePOULSON 25 high by 53 wide by 16 deep

thinking that the suggestion for a slightly taller one would be good but these are still lower. Just for food for thought. for comments-

Well I realize I am doing this rather disjointedly but:

The TV is 44 inches wide. The wall it is on is 70 inches wide.

Bottom of TV is 38 inches from floor- the table under it for point of reference is 21 inches high.

I had DH make ours. I spent well over 5five years searching for just the right piece. I very much wanted the bottom of a china cabinet type piece but with display shelves too. Back then they didn't really make such a thing. The world of ready made furniture finally caught up and you should have no trouble finding just what you want. I wanted a piece that was in the 36" range for height. Our TV is higher than yours but we sit farther back from ours. We are on TV#3 since the cabinet was made, so my suggestion to you is consider if this is your home for the duration and if so how much room do you have? If your TV grows will the breakfront still be what you want? I suggest you get a piece that fits the room more than I would it fitting the TV exactly. Wood/color/style get what attracts you and 99% of the time it all cohesively works.

arcy you are so right about the furniture industry lagging behind the tv part. In our last home, we ended up getting a custom built in book case that was really just stunning- to house the tv as well as serve as book case/breakfront etc. It was a built in and it would not have worked in this house anyway, but what a pity.

I totally hear what you are saying about thinking a bit longer term (past what now seems huge to us- a 50 inch tv- I know for most people it's modest in size lol). This is all just so foreign to me.

I just saw something else that caught my eye and is a bit higher and larger--- not able to save the photo and insert it. Rogers TV linking here to wayfair-jossandmain.

29 high by 60 wide by 16 deep. Unfortunately there is only ONE review on this (it's a 5 star but I always appreciate the reviews and the ones that post picture as well).

Also on a simple note, is this too simple?sudbury

Since this is posted in the plant section all I can think of is what kind of stand would fit under the tv that would look good and hold the most amount of plants! :)

Agreed, I have no clue how it got posted on Azalea forum. In case anyone is interested, and I hope you are, I am in analysis paralysis stage and thought about starting a new thread on this.:)

Thanks to grannymarie, I just saw it come to life. Any wisdom any suggestions in particular would be so appreciated.
