Need help with rug layout in an open concept dining/keeping room area!

Main living area is a fully open concept of kitchen to dining/keeping area to the great room. The area between great room and kitchen is a casual dining/ keeping room area and I have no idea how to add rug or rugs to warm up the area. Overall room size is 17x14 but have a 19" bench seat with dining table. We don't have large gatherings so our table is only 72". I am including pictures of area from kitchen looking in as well as from great room looking in. The space between the chairs and back of the dining chair is 7'6". Can't decide between;

rug only under dining table, rug only under chair area, rugs under both, or a rug just centered in open area.


Also any idea on style or size? I am including a picture of the great room rug which is a cotton antique shaved rug. We are thinking of adding foot stool in front of the chairs Thank you!!

    Beautiful house! A rug under the chairs would help define that space and make it cozy.

    I see some wall separation between your rooms, otherwise, I would have recommended a huge rug under both areas. If the budget allows, and you prefer it, that would look good as well.

    I would not suggest a "flying carpet" in the middle.
