Fireplace help!

Hey everyone.
We're trying to build an electric fireplace in our living room but we're stumped with the tile choices. We're going between light greige and dark grey. There's quite a bit of wood in the room plus it's not a very big room. Even though I like the contemporary look, I'm afraid the dark colors may overpower the room. Furthermore we're not sure if we're should do full or half wall of tile. Any recommendations?
