Royal Colors Amaryllis Bulbs

I just got an email from Paul this morning stating that they couldn't ship to the United States right now I was trying to place my second order in this week and was having trouble placing it so I emailed him and he told me that they were having issues with the USA changing their regulations in the US customs and that I would be receiving a refund on my first order. I was very disappointed as I like ordering from Royal Colors. Has anyone else from the United States ordered from them this fall?

I was going to ask if anyone had received their orders, so I guess that answers that question. They should have let us know sooner so we could have ordered from somewhere else.

I wonder why no one else has received this email (yet)? I wonder if they mailed the first wave of orders and then encountered a problem stopping them from sending the second wave to the US? Going to be a lot of disappointed people if they cancel the first orders for sure!! I only ordered 3 bulbs two of which were Rembrandt van Rijn which I doubt we'll ever see again.

Jody, I have a tall scape and a nice bud on Gracillis x Candy Floss from you that should be out in a week or so!! What exactly is Gracillis and what did yours look like if I might ask?

This summer I had a nice bloom on the Double Puniceum that you sent also. I'll post a picture of that one when my Candy Floss cross blooms!!

I keep looking in spam, and promotions for a lost email from RC..... ;-(((

I got an email from Paul as I was inquiring about making a second order and it wouldn't give the option to pick the United States so he told me that he would check into it then he followed up with another email stating that they temporarily couldnt ship to the U.S and that they were also giving me a refund for my first order that I placed over a month ago. Very disappointing but hopefully they get it fixed!

    Hi Everyone!

I just wanted you to know that I just received my Royal Colors order and everything looks fine!! The two RvRs are huge and firm and the Mystica looks perfect too!

Now not knowing whether or not my order was in the first mailing that made it through.. perhaps there is some hope for some of you! Nothing was opened and the bulbs were not frozen.

I will email Paul and let him know that my order made it through.

I also received my lost package from White Flower Farms! The package was erroneously delivered to the wrong house on the wrong street because they left my P.O. Box number off!!! Luckily, my husband encountered a sympathetic and helpful employee at the Post Office and they retraced were they had delivered it and 4 days later I've got it! One more night and they would have frozen! Today must be my lucky day, I think I'll buy a lottery ticket!!

Hooray! That is great news, Donna. I love Massachusetts winter storms and all.

Donna when did you place your Royal Colors order?

Edubose98, I had placed my order on Sept 14, 2018. I had not received any notice that my order might be hung up in customs and I hadn't yet asked. I was going to give it another week before I inquired. I'm assuming that my order went out in the first mailing as another order reached South Carolina a few days before I received mine.

I emailed Paul & Daphne and told them I had received my order as I had heard that many orders had been hung up in customs and they just thanked me for letting them know, nothing more.

I was hoping to hear here that others had received theirs, but nothing yet I guess.

Hopefully, they will iron out their difficulties for next year.

I didnt place my order til the first week of October so I guess that's why I didnt get my order in the first shipment... I was so disappointed in not getting my order from RC as they were offering some varieties that I havent found in other companies here in the United States. I guess I will be missing out on these beauties this year :(

I placed my order May 9, so I don’t know that early ordering help anything.

Donna, they obviously thrive in your care! Both are easy and generous bloomers. Gracilis x Candy floss is a Glasshouse works hybrid I bought years ago. I tried to send bulbs that I thought would be less commo to avoid duplicating what you had. They are all so beautiful it is hard to pick favorites, isn't ?!!

Does anyone have an update on their Royal Colors order?

    Mine was refunded.

I opted for replacement. They arrived Monday and are all huge and in good shape. I worried that they may have frozen, but nope. Guess I got lucky!!

That's great that your replacement order came through smoothly. Hopefully, that must mean that they have revanped their mailing process and it should be smooth sailing next year!!

    That's amazingly good fortune, Kristi!

The RC website shows: *Unfortunately, we are experiencing some issues in delivery to the USA due to changed regulations at the US Customs. It is temporarily not possible for us to ship to the USA."

They came through fine. Took 3 weeks, but are in good shape. Need to plant them this weekend.

So glad you got your order, Kristi. I wasn't given the option of replacement bulbs. I was just told my order was being refunded. Looking forward to seeing all your pics!!!!

I’m guessing they may not have had the inventory to replace all. Maybe getting my order into them in May had something to do with it.

Kristi, maybe yours were released from customs??? On their website under FAQ and below the listing of countries they can ship to, it still notes that temporarily the can not ship to the United States. -

Since I still can no longer start a new thread, I will just tag on to this one!

I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!!

Here are two of my Royal Colors blooms from the bulbs I was lucky enough to receive this year.

Both of my Rembrandt van Rijns are blooming and they are gorgeous!! Hopefully, I can keep at least one of these alive for the future. Also I ordered another Mystica and it sent up two scapes both with 4 flowers that nearly all opened together but didn't last long but.. long enough for me to enjoy it. Also, I don't think that the flowers were quite as cybistery as the previous bulbs. I also have a Daiquiri in full bloom and I'm pleased. It's much more colorful than I expected and although it's not particularly special, I like it.

    Donna,

They're all absolutely gorgeous, thanks for sharing :-))) Merry Christmas to you too :-)))

I believe Royal Colors has started back shipping to the United States. I emailed paul a few weeks ago and he told me he thought they had it straightened out about customs and now if you go to their page for ordering it gives you shipping quotes to the U.S. where it didnt just a few days ago ;)

    Donna....why can't you post??

    last modified: 7 years ago

Well, I've tried twice to post in this discussion box and it goes to never never land never to be seen again, I don't know where it ends up.

It's been so long that I don't remember what the box looked like where I used to post a new thread but this is the only option I have and it doesn't work.

Usually these ticks work themselves out but this one hasn't for me just yet.

You put in the title then write the post... then add photos. Then you can choose up to 3 forums to post on. does that sound familiar? I couldn’t add pictures from phone, but can from desktop computer.

dondeldux, try a different web browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try Chrome or Firefox.

Donna, if that doesn't work I could open a thread for you where you can post all your blooms. I don't want to miss your beautiful pictures :-))

Thanks Anja but I'm able to just tag onto someone elses thread and I have posted all that I have so far on other threads.

To answer your question about whether or not Fire Blade was as tall as the first blooming, I checked my picures and it appears that it was about 4 inches shorter.this year. I'm really please with this one; it's similar to #0016 but more colorful!!

    Donna

Great picture, Donna! do you have any pollination plans? I'm really looking forward to seeing the Fireblade x Papilio seedlings bloom one day...

Well, I did put Fire Blade on Exotic Star and vice versa and also Mystica on Exotic Star. Also some pollinations with Mystica on Fire Blade and one Rvr. I think I have a selfed self on Mystica, the pod is growing. I didn't mean to do it though. I have another scape making its way to bloom on Mystica. I have an Emerald that will bloom soon so I'm sure I'll do some dabbing with that too.

I have a bud emerging on Maybelle which I bought last year and this is the first bloom so I'm excited about that. I have a no-id large orange as well as my cross I named Green Eyed Tangering also sending up buds. Also a mislabeled Bogota, just a pale nearly white with some faint markings. This is the second time I've got a mislabeled Bogota but I do have two from previous years.

Down in my furnace room I peeked way inside Party Pooper and see a bud, sure hope it deosn't evaporate!

I hope your Fireblade x papilio seedlings continue to do well, I have several of them around somewhere too.

Oh, I almost forgot I have about a 7 inch scape on a Fledermaus!!

I can't believe I am making crosses again this year as I promised myself I would cut way down but I just can't seem to stop myself!!!

I've got lots of bulbs just sitting with one or two leaves so I now check each day for buds I've got many that haven't bloomed in a few years so maybe this year?

Donna, your crosses sound wonderful! I love Fire Blade and I think these crosses should result in some gorgeous flowers. Time seems to fly lately, so it shouldn't be to long before we see these beauties :)

Donna, I hope you post pictures of all your flowers! And Of course I cross my fingers for all those crosses. I have the same plan not to do so many pollinations this year. We will see if that works...

I bought Maybelle too this year. Hopeflly we can compare the blooms!

So, delivered to me today is a large blue bag (Like Santa's - just blue) and inside a somewhat pushed In box with, you guessed it , my bulbs from Royal Colors!! Some flowers were sprouting and they were a little desiccated from a couple of months in transit, but basically in good shape. Amazing! I emailed Paul to let him know.

Congratulations Jody!! Since you probably already received your refund, I assume these somewhat stressed bulbs are on the house!? I hope you get some lovely flowers from them!! Do you think they were in quarantine?

    No way to tell, Donna,

Anyway, here is poor Doublet greening and trying to straighten up

Here is a pic of her face on. She is pretty and different than my other doubles. Three scapes and leaves are showing. Although the colors are reminiscent of Dancing Queen, the flower is smaller. I like this one.

Oh poor bulb, I can see that she would be beautiful!! Well at least these bulbs will have a chance and if anyone can do it, you can!!! Is she more pink than Dancing Queen (?) I can't really tell from the picture.

This is pretty accurate for color. That being said she has been stressed so... It is hard to determine what she would normally look like. She has two more scapes to compare flowers to. I've added a bamboo trellis to help support the scapes until they are stronger . Thankfully the bulb is large and leaves are growing. Oh, she is scented like Blossom Peacock!!!

I just got an email from the friend that got the Doublet I bought in November at Fluwel. She did not write anything about a scent but I like the look. To me it looks rather pink and somehowe different from Dancing Queen. What do you think?

Beautiful picture, Anja, and I agree. Also, Doublet has splashes of red, like the red splashes that Gervase has, although not as prominent. The flowers are somewhat smaller as well, and she has pollen :)

They are both beautiful!! I prefer the darker one only because the lighter stressed version looks too much like Dancing Queen, not that I don't love Dancing Queen!!

I think I will have to add one to my next year's order, even though I'm not crazy about most doubles, I can make an exception for this beauty!! She is a lovely color and a full double!!

    '

Thank you both for the beautiful informative pictures!!

I know one other person on the east coast who got their RC bulbs long after shipment. In a similar bag. They said the bulbs were stressed but surprisingly ok.

This is the second scape of Doublet opening with 6 flowers. This scape is also damaged and requires support. There is 3rd undamaged scape developing.

Great colors once again!! It's got the colors of Krakatoa but in a different form!

I will definitly put one on my list next year!! This doesn't look like the kind that they won't offer again, don't ya think?☺

    last modified: 7 years ago

Now I'm even happier, Donna, as I love Krakatoa!

Anja, did your friend's bulb have 6 flowers? I was expecting the typical 4.

Donna, I'm sure they'll offer it again next year! Jody, I will ask her.

I'm actually thinking of ordering one for me too next season...
