Need help with basement layout!

I would so appreciate it if you can look at these two designs and let me know which you think is better. Our design challenge is that we have three columns cutting across the room, and we want space for a tv viewing area as well as a ping pong table or pool table. The largest column on the left we won't take out because it includes a plumbing stack, but we are considering removing one or both of the others. A couple of notes about the first design--we would not put a tv on the wall but would rather have a projector screen that can go up and down, and we wouldn't put in that bookcase between the two pillars on the right but would leave it open. The second design gives a larger seating area and allows for a tv on the wall, but we'd have the expense of removing a column and I'm not sure it's worth it. Thank you!

The first is nice for a variety of activities, games, tv watching, interacting. The second is very tv focused. I would guess it depends how the space will be used for the majority of the time. Is there a snack center? A table for board, card games? Is there enough storage for everything? Will the desk be used for computer gaming or such while others are watching movies or sports? Or is it just used for someone during day hours.

Thank you. You have actually hit the nail on the head! I envision the space used more as a game room and for hanging out, while my husband thinks it will get more use as a tv room (even though we already have a den wtih tv upstairs). The space in the bay area with the windows isn't a desk but would be used for a snack space and have cabinets underneath for storage (not the stools that are in the picture). There isn't really space for a game table, but I think there could be space around the coffee table to play games/do a puzzle. In the first design we have room for the bigger closet in the corner, so that is an advantage, I suppose. Although, one of the rooms off the basement is a large walk-in pantry/storage closet so I'm not so concerned about storage space. If you have a better design than either of these two, I'd be happy to see it!
