Rug Suggestions for a Busy Floor

All I need to finish my son's room is a rug... but it needs to work with an extremely busy floor (see pic below - vinyl plank) and, to make it even easier, the room is a funny shape at 18x10'.

It's mostly painted a light neutral (BM Edgecomb Grey) with the longest wall and curtains all a very rich navy blue. Glider in front of the closet is a pale grey, while both the dresser along the navy wall and the crib at the far end off the room are white.

HELP!

I'm totally open to any suggestions as long as they aren't a pure white. This is a young (1 year old) boys bedroom so yeah... I don't necessarily want "baby", but it does need to be at least a little bit kid friendly.

A childs room needs to be a lot kid friendly. I am wondering why the flooring was chosen at all. But since it is there why not a simple carpet piece with binding in a solid color . BTW a picture of the room is always helpful.

That's a very busy floor - enough to give one nightmares - especially a child. I would cover it almost

completely, except for about 18" around each side. Go get a piece of rug bound. Any flooring store should be able to do it.

It's a busy floor, but out of all the many things in this world that induce nightmares, it isn't one of them. I agree that a simple rug would be best, but I think you can do more than just a solid color in this space. You might look for something with a border -- something along these lines. I especially like the green/blue rug.
