Odd kitchen design

I recently moved and I am looking for advice on what to do with this kitchen. Because of the placement of the stove, cooking does not flow well. There is a light fixture that is off center based on the previous owner’s design. I was thinking maybe an island but not sure how it would look with the light fixture but it would give me more prep space. Maybe island with wheels that can be moved to the side and used with stools also?

OMG who designed this kitchen?! This layout is a hot mess. An island may give you some more prep space but it won't solve the real issue which is an impractical layout. I say save up some money until you can put in new cabinets with a proper layout.

The fridge opens on the wrong side. Change the hinges. This is easy and possible in most brands. That will help a tiny bit.

Can you stand next to the stove and show the wall near the table?

Agree save for new kitchen. Now though you could remove the armoire and have stove installed on that wall

Not sure how much you want to spend but the easiest fix might be to remove the tall free-standing cupboard and put the stove in its place. Then add a smaller end cabinet to the left of the stove and cabinets/vent above.

If you have a garage the tall cupboard might be useful there or even in a bedroom.

If you don't have room for the stove how will an island help?

I agree with Leelee about moving the stove. You may want someone to draw this kitchen to a better design. Moving some of the cupboards or even taking out the closet and using that space.

The little cubby beside the fridge was probably a MW shelf. You could use it for some of those little appliances to free up some counter space too. Betcha betcha the range was where the storage cabinet is now in its previous life.

I agree that the stove should go on the wall where the armoire is. Then you could put a peninsula where the stove currently is. I would also move the fridge to the other end of the same wall to give you a better work triangle.

Thanks to all. This design is truly horrible. I was looking for a short term quick fix, but there really isn't one. Appreciate all the feedback!

I am sure you find opening the oven door and opening the dishwasher door, almost impossible. Is the tall cupboard to the left of the sink removable? Call your electric company or gas company and see how much it would cost to move your stove connections to the wall where the tall cupboard is....you may be surprised that the cost may be lower than you think....won't hurt to call. With your stove moved, you will have room beside it for a shelf to work on with the waste basket under it. If you want a peninsula, with the way your kitchen is now, you would have to remove the table.

I see there is a wood piece around your stove...that would be an easy removal if you can move the stove.

Motupeg it’s much more likely to be the basement than a closet

What's behind the brown door? Is it a basement door or just a pantry or broom closet? If you can demo that, have it wired/plumbed/vented to put the stove there with a vent hood above. Reverse the fridge door swing. See if you can find a recycle bin to slip in where you have the trash. Get a slim stainless work table to use as an island, but I think you'll have to ditch the breakfast table. Replace the two light fixtures with track lights that you can focus where you need them. Add LED lights under the upper cabs by the fridge.

A total kitchen remodel suggested, but it is mentioned wanting a short term fix.

Well, if it's formica tops, can cut if moved. If tile under stove & if stove has electric cord, then check measures & see if you can move existing stuff around.

The wall cabinet doors can be turned upside down to open a different direction. the holes can be filled & touched up.

I don't usually suggest unpiecing & piecing a kitchen, but in this case, I would get that stove out of the way. the white panel on side can be attached to cabinets if hole is there after moving cabinets.

That way you can use the kitchen in a more functional layout & inspire to save up & get a new kitchen soon.
