Pothos rot continuing in cuttings - Is this a disease?

Back in October, one of my Pothos started to die from root rot. I figured it was overwatering, so I cut my losses and chopped it into cuttings with sterile scissors, and started to root them in water. Here's my problem: Many of the cuttings are dying from the exact same symptoms as the mother plant:

  • Brown or black roots that are covered in a mucus-like substance
  • Yellowing leaves which quickly die
