Are they still in water? If so do you change it regularly?

Most of them are still in water -- though I planted a few yesterday! I don't change it regularly.

Not sure why you'd leave them as water cuttings for so long. When I'm making new cuttings to plant in mix, I pot them up after their roots are 1 or 2 inches long.

If I plan on leaving them as cuttings in water, I add a few bits of aquarium grade charcoal & top off the water from time to time, I never change the water. I usually keep at least one cup of these cuttings in a wine glass of water in my bathroom, snipping back the roots from time to time.

Hi, Karen! The ones that are still in water just haven't grown roots that are long enough to plant yet (either they have no roots yet or their roots are less than 1/2 an inch)! Most of the cuttings that grew roots quickly had unhealthy, black roots and then died. I did plant all of the cuttings that seemed viable!

I feel I should clarify: the images in the original post are from the mother plant, not the cuttings. :)

Also, Floral, that makes sense. I'm still confused about the original plant having the same substance on it, though? That was planted in soil and STILL had that in its roots. Are we certain this isn't some sort of disease/infection? I don't want to plant them and make my soil unusable.

I root (and sometimes grow) my pothos in plain tap water. Rinse the roots off and place in a vase. I change the water every week or so. Gently rinse if they have slime still and clean the vase with plain water. Refill. Repeat, The ones that stay in water, I put a drop of African Violet fertilizer in the water. I use AV fertilizer, because that is all I have that is a liquid.

if you took some damp media.. filled a pot ... and 'stick' the cuttings .... and then covered with a gallon baggie .. odds are.. most of them would root.. in that little greenhouse ...

i need that.. because my hot air furnace has removed a lot of the humidity from the house ... but i bet you could get away without it anyway... because P are so easy ....

i cant see your whole pieces ... if you can.. just take cutting above the part in the water.. and leave behind any problem goo ...

bottom line.. you are making this much harder than it need be.. by fooling around with water .... roots need soil or media ... these are not aquatic plants ... and by trying to root them as such.. you are making it harder ...
