You painted out the gold FP surrounds. Much better! Where did the mirror go? It was heavy on the "gold" touches but would look better now. Elephant doesn't look very friendly

Was following your other post yesterday- you need it to please your eye- you can't change for every post- that being said I loved how you had it in the first place with the black and elephant. Though the gold looks kinda cool but that elephant had a home there.

I think I need to clarify why the elephant wasn't working for me. It's not the painting! It's the overall color of both the wall and the painting together, It doesn't highlight the art like I feel it should! If the wall were a different color, the painting is fine. I'm aware that art is difficult to select for others. We all have our own tastes. I like the painting but a different wall color behind it.

You have a scale issue with your side vases and center plant ( fake?) and mirror. Once you fix that the gold will look better. I would consider taking off the ash blocker and adding sconces to pull the eye up. The round mirror is simply not right for that space.

If that gold paint is not heat proof, you won't be able to actually use the FP.

I love the elephant but with the gold fire place. The dark fire place disappears.

Love the new things. I like the bowl on the mantle. Other things are too small. I loved the candlesticks in your original photo at the top, need something tall like those on the mantle :) Good job. Love the giraffe too.

So should I put candle holders back up on mantle?

I like the size of them and they looked great! Maybe two large vases without anything in them on the hearth or reverse the positions with vases.

Hi. I like the original candlesticks on the mantle, with the other candles. The zebra stripe is too much. Then remove all the other cool nick-knacks, starting to look cluttered. Otherwise I love the mirror and the Giraffe. I loved the elephant too thou.

When in doubt keep it simple and LESS is ALWAYS more when working with any theme in a room. This has a theme but based on color and not accessories and does not scream "african safari" room. You could keep the mirror with the dark candles and the chair and play with the positioning of the giraffe to see if it stays or goes.

I like the gold hearth better. The black on black is so dark. Then I would keep the wall color as is, zebra as is and use white candles instead of zebra stripe, keep them in place as well. Then maybe two matching vases ( empty) on each end of the mantle that come up to the center of the mirror. And a box that is below the mirror that picks up shine like tortoise shell or mother of pearl in the center that is almost as long as the mirror and is below the bottom of the mirror w/an inch or two of wall space between them. But maybe FINAL means final. LOL

One last thing....paint the white trim around the bottom of the hearth a brown that will blend with the floor regardless of whether it stays black or gold. Its standing out too much.

Have you considered bringing in a contrasting color to brighten things up?

I love the room, just a few tweaks. Maybe the mirror can be moved to the right and down. I think it can fit between the switch and the other white object on the wall. It looks like you could move the sofa to the right so that the mirror can be moved down. A good place for the mirror is about 4" inches from the sofa back. I like the elephant too!

You do not have to hang the mirror from a stud. You can use a molly bolt. :) I call them butterfly screws.

I like the 1st pic of these last 3 you've posted. It's really coming together. Love the pop of teal with the elephant. I like that the print takes up more wall space than the mirror. The wall color is nice and inviting, too.

Looks beautiful. I'm amazed by how well this came together -- though you have great pieces so it makes sense.

Have you considered a slightly smaller mirror over the couch? That way your light switches on the left wouldn't get in the way and you would be able to center it better. I would still stick with the elongated rectangle shape... Maybe with a dark wood frame for contrast with the wall, and to also pick up some of the colors from your elephant art?

I offered the idea of a different molly bolt to hang the large mirror to allow you to move the mirror away from the wall switches and lower on the wall. Just wondering if you are opposed to using that application? They hold up to 300 lbs. May need two, just because of the hanging configuration on the mirror back.

I liked the rug in front of the sofa. The open area with that round table out there all alone...just looks like something is missing.

I also liked the black over the gold...or if you kept the gold, paint the white black.

My favorite thing in the room...those 2 accent chairs....oh, and the zebras! :0)

Gold is making a come back. Like everything, it time comes and goes. The elephant was over powering for room. I would try it some where else.
