Flooring advice

Hi!

I have laid beautiful walnut engineered wood in my lounge at quite a cost. Now we are looking to complete the rest of the downstairs space (hallway and kitchen) and sadly cannot afford to continue the flooring throughout. Having lived with the engineered wood for a while I also think that laminate is probably a better option for the hallway and kitchen as the wood easily scratches. The issue I have is I don't know what type of colour to go with. The walnut laminate samples I have picked up don't look like the real thing, so I am wondering if it makes sense to go with a contrast and also something lighter. I don't want to end up with a horrible match and I'm at a bit of a loss how to choose a look. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much,

Victoria
