Paint color coordination help needed

This cabinet color is called Willow, and I can’t get a color code for it. Should I just take the sample door with me and go by my eye to find something to go with it? I know I could get it color analyzed to match the paint, but I don’t want to actually match it. I’m probably looking for a barely there shade of green for a painted backsplash and walls. The counter and border tile will be white. My trim is White Dove. Also, I have a yellow called Shortcake in adjacent rooms. I’d like to keep the yellow, but not sure that is the right yellow to complement this green in a semi open kitchen. Any suggestions?

I would not do green on the walls (or yellow). I would keep it simple and white. Your cabinets are the star.

I’ve considered white as an option, but from where I sit in the living room, it’s the blank walls I see, not the run of cabinets. It just looks like it needs something to set off the door and window trim. The yellow is in the dining and living rooms, from which I see into the kitchen via a counter height large pass through. All said, white is my second choice for the kitchen, so you may be right.

The paint splotches seen on the walls are old paint from the basement family room and bathroom. My painter put it on just to see color on the wall.

    That’s a lovely cabinet color.

This will also be in the kitchen, which probably just strengthens the argument for staying with white. I had wanted to move this the the wall facing the living area, but it would have to be hung high enough to not cover the light switches, which doesn’t look right to me. There is a door in on that wall.

Could you do White Dove on the walls except for the wall with the artwork? On that wall, would your yellow paint color work from the other areas of the house?

You may want to post additional photos of the area to give us a better perspective.

Look at BM off white collection. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color-collections/oc/off-white-collection

There are many loves colors that will add color beyond just "white".

Love the cabinet color, so pretty....but I agree about sticking with a white-ish shade. Pull in some warm wood accents for accessories, which will also compliment your painting. Is the counter stool in the photo what you are thinking of using? More photos of the space and of the yellow would be helpful.

Why don't you want to do a tiled backsplash? Then you could have white but there would be something of interest to look at. I'd definitely stay away from any shade of green or you'll end up monotone.

In this picture they have a yellow wall around the cabinets but under the cabinets is a white subway tile.

Those are such pretty cabinets! When you say painted backsplash (and walls), do you mean you intend to have no tile backsplash? If so, White Dove is a beautiful creamy white that would also be pretty on the walls especially if the [White Dove] trim is in a satin and the walls are in a different finish like eggshell or matte.

But i have to just say that adding a tile backsplash would be a transforming finishing touch on your space. Even a simple off-white backsplash will make your cabinets stand out that much more. And a veil of neutral wall color [like BM Balboa Mist or Pale Oak depending on lighting in your space] added to that would be a simple gorgeous way to let those cabinets shine.

I will have some wood. The floors are a medium stained hickory, and a peninsula will have a walnut top.
The navy stool is what I’ll be using at the peninsula. I have a lot of colorful pottery and dishes that will be on display. I’ll see what pictures I can add.

I will have a border of white 4” square tile topped with a pencil trim around the perimeter, filling in only over the cooktop. I’m using white Corian for the counter top. The tile backsplash will look similar in idea to this.

Here’s some other photos of the area and things that will be in the kitchen.

The foyer is a lighter shade of the yellow in the dining and living rooms.

I think white is a good choice, but not the only choice. Taking the sample door and going by eye is a good place to start for narrowing down your options, but you will still want to actually view paint samples in your kitchen to make a final decision. That's true even (maybe especially) with whites, since there are a zillion different whites and how they look can be affected dramatically by the lighting.

As far as not wanting to look at blank white walls, I was going to suggest artwork, but it sounds like you are already thinking in that direction.

I know digital doesn’t capture accurate color, but here are the best of the color strips I brought home. Can you believe I forgot to take the door? If doing green, I was thinking something like the lightest at the top, but it looks cold to me. The lightest yellow I just like. Yellow is my color. I could have him do one good coat of White Dove and live with it for a bit. I’ll be having more painting done after the holidays or in the spring, so he could put a coat of color on then if I don’t like just white.

If you are leaning toward yellow for the walls, then I would look at a really pale shade. As a previous poster mentioned, you want your cabinets to be the star.

I went with BM White Dove for the walls (already on trim). There will be enough color going on with the cabinets, art and accessories. Easiest thing to change in the future. I’ve had White Dove throughout on all my trim for 16 years and have never been unhappy with the choice. Clean, bright, warm.

White dove sounds like a good choice. Cabinets are really pretty. I agree, you need more backsplash, than just a 4 inch strip. Since you have a navy stool, I would add some more navy touches in accessories. Please post a picture of the room, with its new white paint.

Not much to see with it painted. 10 more days and it should be substantially finished. Then I’ll see how things pull together. I can’t wait!

Its looking very nice and very clean. The white appears to be a very good choice. Good luck with the rest of the finishing.
