Yes, true. But the shape of the flowers seems to be a little different and when one looks at those at the very bottom of the pic they seem to be more than four-petaled?

i really can’t see enough detail to ID them definitively, but to my eye they seem consistent with California poppies. But perhaps you can find something else that seems more likely in the wildflower guide.

More pictures of Anza-Borrego It's kind of hard to count petals because they blend so well. I suspect they are desert farkleberries. :/ Is there a draft in here?

I think it also could be Geraea canescens https://www.flickr.com/photos/slworking/2357480670/ but it is difficult to say for sure. I hoped someone familiar with the Anza-Borrego flora will be able to say from experience. I have never seen either of the two species in the wild.

Farkleberry (Vaccinium arboreum) is a shrub or small tree with thick leathery leaves and inedible black berries, native to the southeastern US.

Yes windy I see what appear to be multiple petals at the bottom of the pic as well.

Geraea canescens comes up on some images of the park. The lighting/time of day seems to certainly affect the colour of the blooms. Not convinced for an ID but possible.
