plain dining room needs life

How would you decorate or bring life to this space?

Here is my dining room. Its not very large because the table is 88 inches long. So there inst much space between the end chairs and the wall when people sit at the end. You can see in the reflection in the mirror what is on the other side of the dining room and I've attached a pic to give a better idea ( I dont have a better one on me). The other side is the kitchen with a high counter.

Can yoou rotate the table? It does look quite cramped in the space. I would add an area rug - probably a dark one since you have kids. The walls could use some attention - something to look at - they are bare. Window treatments would help soften up the space.

Would you consider a new dining table and chairs? A large round table would be very social and more appropriate for the space. Drapes, art...it all falls into place but you need to start w the plan. I understand if budget does not allow this but I thought I’d throw it out there since that’s what I’d do w that space. Good luck!

Can you angle the kitchen table? My last house the dining room was smallish (15x13) and I angled the table and it worked great. Every chair had room for seating with walking space behind the chair. I agree with drapes and wall art. Since it is the kitchen I would not put in a rug unless you really like to clean a rug every couple of weeks.

Do you have a chandelier? I’d get a pretty fixture hung about 36” above the table, curtains, a table runner, artwork, lose the bench and get more upholstered chairs and add cushions to the plain ones. A rug is nice, but kind of a pain with kids, but the other things would help.

That little xmas tree on the table cracks me up!

the table is fine. you need some life around it. rug, artwork, chandelier and some type of window treatment. Basic stuff. I think some wainscot and a nice color above, would look 10X better.

with all those kids, if you do one of these inexpensive polypropylene rugs, they're a cinch to clean

Color, personal touches. You have a bench. Give yourself more room by anchoring it up against a wall then placing the table so the kids can slide in. This would give the chairs more room and maybe add some walking space. Rugs in an eating area especially with children are counter indicated but some art on the walls and window treatments would be a good start.

A rug must. A large piece of Art can really bring in a wave of deftness and add more color and life to your dinning room. Attached some pictures to give you better idea :) I hope it will help to decor your space :)

We recommend some window treatments, artwork, a rug, a chandelier, and perhaps a new center piece for the table. Here are two of our designs that might inspire you.

Color is an easy way to add personality, but you can still achieve a more polished look with a monochromatic/neutral palette. Lighting can add a lot of personality to a space. A series of lanterns would look nice. If you want a more eclectic feel the photo with the glass pendants at staggering lengths is a good example. Lastly, add an area rug and curtains. Good luck !

    A couple observations:

--Please let us know if the table can be rotated the other way in the direction of the wood flooring.

--The grayish color of the table and walls don't harmonize well with the golden floors. You probably can't do anything about this except pull the eye away with art, possible rug, curtains. But if you do change out the table, yes a round one, with leaves for seating more people, is the way to go--no corners.

--A rug would be great, but sometimes people with young children prefer no rug.

    --Art:

(This one connects your grays with the golden reds of the floor but you'll want to choose a large art work in a palette, style, and subject you love. Curtains and rugs can come afterwards.
