I have a fan in my bath & like it a lot. When I take too warm of a bath, I can cool off quickly, and it's great for helping dispense humidity when my husband fogs up the entire bath before I can style my hair!

If you post a floorplan with measurements and locations of plumbing and such (is it a concrete slab or wood floor? is there room to move fittings?), we could get you started with a layout. Also add your wants and needs; Do you want a bath or just a shower for example. Also find pictures of bathrooms you like and add them to an ideabook. And find a professional to help you make it all come true.

Good luck with your project! It sounds like your husband ran out of steam! LOL Bad joke, I know... The next step is to plan what you want, and If you plan on doing the work yourself, lots of research! Then do one step at a time. It will be much easier than trying to do it all at once! I have a set of books I got years ago and learn a lot from them each time I start a new project.

HI - You can not do anything properly with out a plan , and it sounds like you don't really have one . Find a certified kitchen and bath designer to sort things out before you go any further . Renos cost money and mistakes cost even more !

A plan would help to get you going in a direction!!

I'm not sure what area your in, but maybe you should sub our evey trade separately , but make sure and get references!

I agree that you need a plan for the entire area and I think you do have a vision. It seems the problem involves inertia....failure to go forward. If that had been your only bathroom (as it was for us) the problem would have been taken care of long ago. This is a common situation. Easy to say but just DO it. Become a team and get t done. By the way, were the munching sounds carpenter ants? I heard munching sounds coming from a windowsill once and that is what was living there. NOT good.

I am going through with similar phase but with two daughters in college. Two months ago after getting runaround from very expensive contractors my wife made me in charge of A-Z on this project, so I got her to give me her color scheme and I took off ( slowly) from there.
1, Lowes contractor, who did floor Tiles for me, cost me less then $1k and free advice from this nice contractor.
2, I painted the walls.
3, Hung Mirrors and Curtains.
4, Put in Plumbing fixtures Vanity box and toilet. ( Now girls are somewhat happy.) Second Phase--------------
6, Dug out the old P-trap from Tub and replaced it with a new one (I dont know why?)
7, Took out and cut out old roted studs and put in new treated studs.
8, Measured, cut, placed hardy board for standup shower and marked in each shower place and took em out.
9, prepared floor for shower pan - ( waiting on for a contractor for this and tiling)
This weekend all my plumbing for shower will be done, moisture membrane and hardy boards will be put up.

I have the exact same husband problem...my bathroom has been torn up for 8 years (began with a leak under our slab) and has just the toilet in it; what a mess! Actually I have found a solution to my problem but it started with painting the other bedrooms and redoing the floors with laminate. I went out and bought the supplies I thought I needed and just starting tearing out baseboards and painting. It didn't take him long to come in and take over to make sure it was done right; that and my brother and his family are planning on moving to our city and my brother said he would make sure it was done after he got down here. They have visited a couple of times over the past few months in preparation for the move and my husband 'gets real busy' every time before they come so something more will be done when they get here. It's got everything to do with male pride. LOL! Try it and see if it works!

If my husband tore something up and didn't fix it ASAP, there would be a divorce in my very near future. Living in a disaster zone is crossing the line for me. I hope you find and implement a solution soon! Can you get free estimates on the project and threaten to spend money on a contractor if your husband doesn't get on the ball?
