This renovation revolved primarily around removing walls between a narrow galley kitchen, formal dining room and small family room (formerly an attached single-car garage) to create an open-concept kitchen/family room space measuring about 25'x22'/550 sq. ft. The former living room was repurposed as the new dining room. One of the walls was load-bearing double brick and necessitated the installation of a semi-flush steel I-beam weighing about 900 pounds. The kitchen cabinetry is IKEA Sektion system, with the "Torhamn" door style, custom painted black and white, with "Kungsbacka" black trim panels (made entirely from recycled wood and soda bottles). Counter is Kstone v8006. 10 foot island. 12 foot custom sectional sofa from Pavilion furniture in Toronto. Quarter-sawn red oak flooring matching the original narrow strip flooring in the rest of this 1938 house.

The design goal was to artfully combine updated elements such as the open-concept space, new kitchen, new appliances, large patio doors, LED lighting, etc. with the home's existing traditional features such as leaded windows, leaded glass gumwood french doors, and narrow-strip oak flooring.

I am a Toronto general contractor and this is my own house. All design work by me and my SO. All execution by my company, Home Reborn. Project was completed in about seven weeks.
