The view through my new window

We have just had a new window put into our front door. Beforehand, the glass was opaque and I hated not being able to see out in the winter. During the spring, summer and autumn, the door stands fully open, but in the winter with the door closed I couldn't see anything. But now......

I would love to see the view from your front door as well.

Daisy, what a difference. When we painted the house we took out two small windows and traded them out for nice big ones and the difference was amazing. Sometimes I just stand there looking out.

I dont have the gorgeous front door view that you have. What an incredible front yard you have.

So much for the lovely views from gardeners doorways. Heres imy view from the front patio.

Maybe to the left one can see .. no hope there

Okay. Let's stand further down and look at the rose garden. Forget it!!

Forget the "rose garden" description. Think jungle or Kordes roses.

Daisy, I'm so happy for you. That view is pure magic. You've created your own paradise.

Karen, you have so many lovely roses. Can you please tell me the name of the gorgeous lavender/purple one closest to the camera in the second picture? I'm in love.

oldrosarian, can I come visit? I'm drinking in all that lush green foliage and the beautiful trees in the background. I still see plenty of rose blooms, and can just imagine what it must look like in spring.

My front door view is very uninspiring right now, as is the rest of the garden. I'm hoping for some improvement next spring.

Daisy, I wish I had your lovely view from my front door. Whenever you let us virtually walk through your garden, it feels like wandering through a secret garden with dainty perennials, beautifully shaped terracotta pots, unexpected nooks, roses flowing down from pergolas or as shrubs adorning the path ... and now your front view is as enchanting as the rest.

I read on another thread that you've not been feeling well lately and want to wish you a quick recovery and smooth healing.

Here is quite a different view for a change. Last night we had exactly the same snowfall as on this first photo, but I didn't have my iPhone camera handy. It's a street view from my upstairs window at this time of the year, just taken last year (if you enlarge it, you'll see the falling snowflakes). And the backyard and frontyard are really bare with benches, obelisks and trellises covered with snow as in the detail on the second photo.

Daisy, I also wish you a speedy recovery in time for your growing season. What a view! I would park myself in a chair and never leave if that's what I saw. My front view isn't really good at all as that area is small and very shaded by old oaks so nothing really grows under them. Vesfl, that is SO charming and must be equally fabulous when the tree are leafed out. Both your yards feel like little private paradises!

Karen, Oldrosarian, Ingrid and Vestfl , you guys have beautiful gardens. I am afraid mine is just blah piece of landscape. I don't know how you guys do it but I am finding it hard to do simple garden takes forever to accomplish. sigh!!

Daisy, I wish you well and fast recovery. I hope you will feel better and more energetic I love your view so much.
I see roses on right side looks like a 'tree'. Yellowish peach roses. I am going to guess it but I am sure I am wrong. I am horrible in guessing names of a rose. It looks like Thomas Graham or Golden celebration. I am curious what rose is that ? Forgive me if I am wrong but I am still learning. What rose is that ? It is huge :)
I do miss your thread. I find treasures, beauties and if I am lucky I think a fairy or two...hehehe.

The first one is from the kitchen window and shows what is left of the tree that fell

through the house during a storm 20 years ago. The second one is from the guest bedroom window. The rose is Windermere.

Daisy - also wishing you the best of health, wasn't aware that you hadn't been well.

I'm just sinking in these beautiful sights - what a marvelous thread - thank you for starting it.

Ingrid - both of the lavender roses are Heirloom. The one further away was ordered from a rose auction and was supposed to be Monet, but I have no doubt it is another Heirloom (that was a disappointment, but fortunately I love it). I would highly recommend it - it has non-stop repeat, is extremely healthy, and the fragrance is beautiful and strong.

Daisy, the view from your front door is glorious! Is that a winter photo? If so, wow, what a great growing climate. Here is one from my front porch, standing right outside the front door in late November:

The rose is 'Barcelona/Francis Dubreuil', flowering because I was bringing the pot inside each night. The pale structure is a cemented-in-place birdbath with a styrofoam faux granite planter on top. The white patches are where birds have pecked away the paint. The dark upright shrub in the border on the right is the gallica 'Alain Blanchard', and the shrub at the far left is High Country Garden's version of 'Banshee' damask. My lawn is drought-tolerant, winter-dormant Bermuda grass with patches of a green fescue grass (also drought-tolerant) I'm having trouble removing. In November, my across the road neighbor's Siberian elm still had green leaves. You can also see some of the cholla cacti lining his fence. The tall wooden stick to the right of 'Barcelona' is supporting plastic fencing that keeps the elk from jumping into the yard. Around here you need to fence out elk, javelina and other wildlife to keep tasty ornamentals uneaten.

Thank-you for your best wishes and photos. I loved them all.

Karen your roses are stunning, oldrosarian, I would love to get lost in your jungle, Ingrid your garden always has that calm beauty, vesfl, I love your snowy views and lola moth, your views are stupendous. Genevre, I envy you your Francis Dubreuil, I love it ,but it hated it here. It couldn't take any sun at all.

jin, the rose outside my front door is Pat Austin. It has been in the same pot for 10 years now. Everything in the front of my house is in pots, apart from some plants which are planted on the village bank.
