Bathroom vanity mirrors; one or two and lighting

I have an 8-9 foot wall that will have a toilet and a 60" double sink vanity on it.

In the ceiling above the toilet and vanity are 3 recessed lights 12" from the wall (one above toilet and the other two above sinks)

Assuming I'd have two mirrors above each sink, I bought two double-light vanity lights to go over each mirror.

I then decided I might return those and instead get three sconces: one on each outside of two mirrors and one in between.

But now I'm thinking of skipping the two individual mirrors and getting one large one, the one large mirror could make the small space feel larger and allow for more "primping" room for my daughters. The mirror measure 58" wide so I could put a sconce on each side (2 lights that are 60" from each other), but is that enough overall lighting with the 2 recessed lights above?

I'd love to hear from those who actually have sconces, one mirror or two.

The overhead vanity light (with the 3 recessed) always seemed ok, and I think they are all visually pleasing....but everyone claims sconces are the way to go, so any actual testimonies would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

I would highly suggest you rethink the double vanity. At 60” wide, you’re really pushing it—especially since you have daughters who will need all the countertop space they can get...and then some! If I were you, I’d place the one sink off center, so that while one girl is using the sink, the other can still use the other side. As for the mirrors and lighting, use one huge mirror across the entire vanity and mount the sconces right on the glass.

The 60" vanity has already been purchased/factored into the space, and is replacing a previous 66" vanity. Fortunately the new 60" has far more storage than the larger custom 66" I built into the space 10 years ago. My girls are also quite used to the double sinks - and their brother comes home form college periodically - so I can't imagine just one sink in that busy bathroom. Just need to figure the lights and mirrors now....

I would always recommend a mirror over each sink. It just simply is more visually interesting and it gets you away from a dated builder grade look when they used one big mirror back in the day. It will look more modern and fresh if you use two mirrors.

    Thanks all or your input!

I'm going with two. Two is what I originally thought but then fell in love with the PB Astor Double-Width Mirror (a 58" X 40 beveled mirror framed with beveled mitered pieces of mirror). It's the only large mirror that fit the idea I had in my head for how I pictured the space with "one large mirror", but it seems to have been discontinued on PB and there is no duplicate to be found (I even went to a glass store to see if they could make it and they cannot). So two mirrors it is.

My base tile that was on backorder (giving me more time to work through all this) gets installed tomorrow so now I just have to figure out/order the lights....either overhead, or sconces that would be squeezed in. There will only be 6" of space next to the right-side mirror so I'm leaning toward overhead.

I like having 3 sconces - one on either end and one in the middle - because that gives the best lighting for doing makeup and other skin stuff. Then the lighting is evenly distributed over each sink/mirror
