Unfortunately I’m not going to have many pictures of my own to post because we suffered through a terrible drought here which did not let up till September. Too late for my hostas - I lost several established hostas and all those that I split in the spring.

Paula, so glad you are doing good this winter. Fun to be back looking at our Hostas dreaming of when we see them in the garden again. Thank you for heading this up. Here are my A's

mbug, that is one gorgeous Autumn Frost,

littlebug, I can empathize with you on a bad year. Mine was due to rabbits, I lost or suffered severe setbacks to at least a dozen hostas. I came home from a 3 week vacation and several plants were eaten down to the ground. Just leaves left, stems or petioles completely eaten to the ground.

Well some survived, here are my A's.

Old Dirt- I feel your pain, re: the rabbits! So many of my hostas and shrubs are way further behind than they should be for their age, due to rabbit damage over the past few years.

Wow- all the beautiful Ann Kulpas are standing out to me like never before.... that one is going on my list!

The Ann Kulpa's are looking real good to me too. I remember passing up on it at a nursery. Now I regret it.

Each spring it seems like Atlantis doesn't know what to do with all its big leaves---

And then, like magic, the leaves all find their place perfectly:

Amalia:

I remember there being a posting where someone went to a nursery and took a lot of pictures to show the forum. Within that posting there was something like an Amalia (a) and an Amalia (b) meaning one type was superior to the other. I think this one looks like a Class b type. It hadn't occurred to me when I purchased it. Now we just wait and see what develops.

So many amazing specimens! I hope when I get around to planting the many of these that I have they look nearly as good. It is only A and already I have a want list, it will be really long by the time we are done!

Sorry about the drought and rabbit issues. I can relate. We had hail and then a dreadful drought. Deer are a constant battle. I think the rabbits here are afraid to get trampled by the deer lol.

Thank you newhostalady. Appletini flowers prolifically and they are very attractive with red speckled petioles too which is a nice bonus.

It will be interesting to see if there is any difference with your Amalia. Either way I think it is lovely.

I posted pics from Jan's nursery of the type A and Type B Amalia and this year I see he has released Dancing Darling and First Dance which look a lot like Amalia and are also sports of Dancing Queen (or sport of sport of DQ). I wonder if he took the Amalia type Bs and released them as one of those. Alas, I have no inside info and can't find more details on the web. I love the look of Amalia so perhaps I should just take one for the team and buy them and see for myself how different they are. Worst case - I have some Amalia look-a-likes! Here's my 1st year Amalia whose older leaves look like type B and second year (after moving it twice) look like type A. At least it did to me during the growing season, but now looking at the pic from mid July, the center isn't as bright yellow as previous pics.

Thanks Steve for your thoughts and info on Amalia. It will be interesting to see how your Amalia develops. Also interesting about how your type B Amalia later looked more like type A Amalia. I guess it is possible that the Amalia type B's were renamed. I am wondering how my Amalia will look next year. I was looking forward to having an Amalia that looked more like Donna's and Dave's.

Feeling the “rabbit pain” this past season. Had a baby rabbit in the yard, so much worse than the adults. The babies do “tooth” practice, finding out what they find tasty and working those new teeth. The baby totally destroyed a 3’ diameter Fragrant Bouquet, among others. Just tore every leaf off, didn’t eat much! Partly my fault, got lax with the milorganite, argh.......

I thought I had no A's but I found two, top centre is Apple Pie and just to the right of it is Antioch.

I know lots of folks had poor hosta weather last year. Most of my hosta were rubbish, worst growing season yet, but I'll post the few I took shots of. I enjoy seeing everyone else's though!
