I like classic gray versus white. You need to start sampling before the painters come! You can’t just pick a color over the Internet. Get some big foam board or drywall to paint on and move it around. Make sure it looks good with that fireplace stone. Don’t try to sample over that red - it will need primer so it doesn’t bleed through.

I think a soft white would look nice.

• For a creamy white, Simply White by Benjamin Moore is lovely. I would do the built ins the same color.

I love classic gray and have it all over my house. It’s a warm vanilla gray.

@Mimimomy, I was not sorry for my opinion, just sorry to have to once again disagree with the "grey trend is over" statement. To say using grey is "over" is to me the same as saying cream color paint is out of style. Kristin had stated she was looking at using grey so I was just trying to be supportive of that. I totally agree that the color and decorating choices in anyones home should be based on what you like and what makes you feel good when you walk into the room and never in what is "in" or "out" of style.

I think classic gray is almost a white. Many of the paints named gray don’t look gray at all. Nantucket Gray, is one example. Classic gray is another, in my mind. It’s very creamy and, well, classic. I think that what is “out” is doing everything gray. Gray walls, gray rugs, gray furniture, all of it together. I though classic gray would look good with her stone. Better than decorators white, anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone! I'm just very nervous using an off-white because our trim is Navajo white right now which is pretty much yellow if you put it next to plain white. This is going to be the last time this room is painted for a LONG time so I don't want to make a mistake. In the past when I've picked anything with color I've regretted it. I like the white white look because it looks clean and fresh but I want to make it look intentional and not dingy. Hopefully the painter will do a couple samples for me

Oh now I see. Yes even decorators white may make Navaho look yellow. DW is a little green/yellow. Why not just use Navajo white. It could look very sophisticated just with a different sheen. How does it look with your stone?

HI -- I recommend " Greek Villa " by Sherwin Williams for the whole interior ...walls and ceilings and trims . It is a warm white and I am doing this in my house on walls and the ceiling and trims . Great affect and what looks best for vaulted ceiling rooms . Makes a great canvas to decorate in. It looks refreshing and modern and will be timeless .
