rug or curtains?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to pull this seating area together a little more and I've been told that a rug and/or curtains would help. I'm on a bit of a budget right now so what do you suggest I invest in first? And please help me with colours/designs, size for rug, etc. thank you so much.

A rug is the best choice..I really don’t mind your white grommet drapes..they work in your transitional space...an 8x10 is plenty big for your room...here is a rug that would look great in your space,

Take all the pillows away before choosing a rug , you have too many anyway. Wayfair and Houzz both have great rugs for a decent price.Find one you love then get pillows that go with it one on each end of the sofa the throw only on the loveseat.

Home Interiors thank you so much for this suggestion! Love this rug you suggested. white does make me a little nervous with food/wine accidents and a toddler, but if I find one at the right price I'll go for it.

Lots of great options through online retailers like Wayfair, etc. If you find one you like, order the smallest size (eg. 2’ x 3’) to be sure the color works and you like the material (it’s way easier to return ship a small rug!). When you actually buy the rug, make sure you are getting the correct size - folks usually buy one that is too small! On another note, are both of your lamps matching? You may want to be sure they both have the same kind of bulb - the shades are reading as two different colors (brown and purple).

Hehe yes our lamps are the same colour! I know they look like two different colors which is weird because in real life there isn't a difference! What's the sizing rule with an area rug? should it go under the couches or be in front of them?

Layering pillows of different texture and shape will help to add depth to your space. Pink, orange and brown are beautiful in this space and this rug is reasonable and meets your budget requirements. The white panels need to be doubled in size on each window to hang as above to create the folds in the material. Your lamp cords can be hidden easily by tie wrapping or affordable tubing at the baseboard at a local hardware store. Coffee table books arranged with brushes and vase in your style to complete the look. Build from there if you want to take it further. Paint, artwork, new lamps and what not.

You might find this of interest :-) But note the rug in question has a flat nap.

A rug will unify and add dimension to your room in a major way.

If you have a Home Goods near you, they have excellent prices on rugs.

I agree with others, you should start with a rug. Like everyone else has said, the rug color will be something that would give you a nice accent color. The rug will also help you define and ground your space. I would defiantly get a rug large enough to fit under the front feet of your sofa and love seat, just like how Beverly has mapped out. It brings in the soft texture from the rug but also frames it in. Good luck!

I think your room would benefit from pulling your sofas away from the walls and windows. Possibly a sofa table behind one of them. I have always adored this color combination of brown, whites, and blues. The white lamp HIWE posted would look lovely in your room. Maybe you can find some inspiration from this photo...

I would love to see a photo of your room with the curtains open and daylight coming in:)

I would try switching out the sofa with the loveseat so that you can Use a end table with the sofa and one with the loveseat to spread the light you will get from your set of lamps... that sofa looks cramped into that niche the loveseat will fit better and have some space to add a end table and lamp...also the coffee table will look better in front of sofa...if in your budget you coukd add two storage cubes to flank your coffee table to create a square..much better with your two sofas and they can be moved around as needed.:)

We suggest looking for a very large rug for your room. The curtains can wait.

When you have a bit more money ditch your wood coffee table and find a metal and glass one to break up the monotony of all the brown; you also don't want the same style and wood for end tables and coffee table both. The rug is on sale at esale.rugs. in the clearance section.

With a toddler, check out washable "Ruggables" for now. You can upgrade once the baby is older.
