I think its really up to you. Lay the splash down on the counter using at least 2 or 3 sheets then stand back. If it speaks to you then who cares what we think :). The color is similar and neutral enough not to clash if that is what you are asking.

I just saw a girlfriends backsplash..... Subway tile that looked like metal- that would be sharp. I don't care for the matched look of your backsplash to your floor (sorry, I don't care for the flooring.) I do like the tile and grout for the backsplash (it works well with your granite and cupboards)..... Like Ben said.... Lay a few up there and look at the room as a whole.... Good luck!

Yikes!!! I'm sorry Margo, in this black and brown kitchen, a pure white subway tile would look awful! :S

Yes, in that kitchen you posted it works because of the white floors, walls and countertop and bar stools. Very different from the kitchen above.

You would not be the first to tell me I was making an awful choice, only to have been given the thumbs up when I did it anyway :)

There's nothing wrong with it in the proper application. However, in this case it won't work and would be a costly mistake.

I do not think den would like white subway tiles by the type of tiles he is showing preference for. In my opinion the mosiac tile is way to busy and may get tiresome. That would be a costly mistake.

I will take the high road. I will let you be "right" when you tell me where else in this kitchen there is "pure white" to prevent the backsplash from sticking out like a sore thumb!

Caroline^ you have far more knowledge than I. I have no formal training or educational background in design. I still do not think white subway tile will stick out any more than the mosaic. How about a comprise and use *cream subway tile* ;)

Cream makes all the difference! :)
In Susanne's examples, the first is cream (which shares the underlying hue in the floor), and the second pulls grey from the veins in the counter. Both are well thought out, and work because of properly executed design principles.

Hi Den...I like your second choice. Installed on the horizontal.

If you have stainless appliances and want a more modern look, stainless subway tiles could be the one. But, I still like the glass you chose.

I am not a professional but my first thought is with the stainless tiles as stated above. I also like your choice with the above picture....instead of vertical I would place the horizontal :) Beautiful kitchen!
