We purchased a single story home in Los Angeles built in the 1950’s. There is very plain front step with almost no over hang above the front door and the house looks blah from the street. When it rains any mail that is too big for the mail slot gets soaked. We would love update the front and add either some sort of porch or portico in addition to some new front steps and possible replace the dated stucco with some shingles or siding. We realize this will take some design work and creative changes to our roof as well. Rookie question, but do I need to find an architect or can a contractor design and build this?
