Kitchen countertop and backsplash materials

We are updating our kitchen and can’t decide if we like the faux marble we got, or if we should just leave the counter as is. Does the marble clash with the backsplash or does it work? I just can’t decide. I love how shiny the marble is. Help!

We have dark brown wood cabinets and black appliances.

Please add some more pics where cabinets and appliances can be seen for better advice.

It’s not a glamorous kitchen, but what would you do given the options?

The faux marble clashes with the tile backsplash above the counter backsplash. You have 2 backsplashes - the tile and the 4" riser of counter material. Remove the tile and fix any damage on the walls left from removal and paint, or remove both the tile and the 4" backsplash and re-tile the whole thing in something without a pattern that clashes with the countertop patterns.

HI -- The little 4 inch backsplash trim should have been removed . The backsplash tiles should come to the counter top. The company that did that should have known that . Maybe now you could continue with counter top material up for the backsplash if you don't want to remove the short back piece . That counter top material could be cut in long strips to match and continue as the backsplash so it looks like you meant to do it that way . As it is now .. counter and tiles ... they don't go together .

I’m trying to figure out what the material is that you’re covering your current counter with? The faux marble?

Ya ... which is which ???

I’m a little confused. This is what I understand, correct me if I’m wrong. You currently have the plainer tan countertop and you’re planning to cover the countertop with a faux marble skin (contact paper?). You want to know which one looks better - current or marble? I think the current one looks better with your floors. The faux marble does not relate to anything in the room. Usually, a tile backsplash is not added on top of the post form countertop splash. If you’re replacing the countertop, it usually messes up the backsplash and at that point a new is needed, but I don’t think that’s what you’re doing.

What if we got rid of the 4” backsplash and put on more tile backsplash. Then which counter material would you recommend?

We were going to switch to the marble counter, but thought it made things look too busy and needed a second opinion. Please ignore the double backsplash, we’ll do something about it.

Are you looking to update kitchen or only want to change countertop? if change of countertop is only a starting point than it is a very nice current look for cheap price.

It works! The representation of the different textures between the backsplash and the countertop is modern, clean and very visually appealing. Love the countertop.
