F daylilies 2019

It’s time to show off your F daylilies. I’ve got a few that haven’t bloomed yet or I didn’t get a decent photo of, here’s what I do have.

Final Touch, first bloom of the season.

Forbidden Desires did well last season despite the weather.

Flutterbye will always be on my favorites list. This is registered as an early, it’s not early here.

Fernstone was added last season and surprised me with a few blooms.

Fancy Buttons is a new Double here with first blooms this past season.

Celeste, I always like Forsyth Summer Snow. I have Frank’s Star of Bethlehem and even though it blooms “short”, it is a pretty bloom.

Free Wheelin seems to live up to its name.

Hi Peren.all So glad to "see" you here . Thanks for the nice comment on my "F" seedling I love it too.....I have no idea what crosses were used . I had used vinyl blind tags to record the crosses , shoved into the ground (a suggestion I saw in some forum - never again! ) in my seedling bed and most got heaved out of the ground in the winter and taken away by winds ......I am guessing they are somewhere waaaaaaay down the road from me . So I will never know who the mama and papa were unfortunately . The same thing happened to about 2/3 of the 500 seedlings I planted that year.

Thanks signet! I have so little to offer here but I enjoy taking part and seeing the vast number of possibilities available.

What a shame you do not have the record of the crosses. It certainly does not affect the beauty of this seedling. Even if you happened to make the same cross again I am guessing the result could be very different.

The heaving you get on late season plantings is wicked. It is a real trade off - to brick or not to brick. There is really no foolproof way to mark so many plants is there. Between the heaving, wind, birds and any other critters that may disturb your plantings. I know of some who use paint pens to write on rocks (or bricks) and then they either turn them over or leave the written side up. You are dealing with such large numbers of plants though!

I agree, Signet, your seedling is lovely! And David, your Forsyths are really pretty. I enjoy seeing your Bennett lilies. I was late to start collecting Bennetts and don’t have enough!! They perform so well for me. And Celeste, Freedom’s Triumph is another one I have that cannot hold a candle to the fabulous purple in your garden. Gorgeous clump!

So many pretty ones. These are only a few that caught my eye right off the bat. Debra: Forsyth Frostbound is so delicate and girlie girl in your picture. A Sweetheart.........Celeste: Your Femme De Joie is awfully nice. You took a good shot of it. My favorite though is Frank's Star of Bethlehem. Right up my ally..........Peren.all: Freewheeling is one of the few UF's I've contemplated adding to my collection. Unfortunately in our heat the color fades and it doesn't look as dramatic as in your picture. Were I in a cooler summer climate I'm sure I would have added it by now. Your pictures tells the story of why..............Maryl

    Here are my F's.

Femme de Joie has been in our garden for quite some time.

First Addiction needs to be moved to a spot with more sun.

Bob loves the color on Flaming Flamingo.

Forestlake Becky was a great performer last summer.

Forestlake Laura Lee Harding has always been one of our favorites from Fran Harding.

Four Beasts in One is not well established but it was sure showing its pattern the day this picture was taken.

    That's all for me.

Perenn.all we will have to remedy that . If you are interested , I will have some daylilies to share this season , I will be dividing clumps and some I have in more than one location , I would love it if you have room to give some a home . I am not good at composting ! as a matter of fact I just cringe thinking about it . We can discuss which are available a little later on if you are interested

Nancy: FOUR BEASTS IN ONE is on my list to get. It looks spectacular. Does the pattern always show up?

Brad: I thought I had dug the entire clump up 3 years ago, but I missed a fan, so I still have it. Many people grew it in MD, as the hybridizer was from MD, so it was readily obtained.

Debra , hard to pick which of yours I like best . Forsyth Frostbound ( although I think the name doesnt do justice to such a delicate looking flower ) is one gorgeous plant . All but Frans Hal really are lovely. With all the bells and whistles on daylilies these days, poor old Frans is showing his age . I think I may get rid of my Frans Hal this year ....I have a seedling from it that although shorter than I like has a much prettier bloom than Frans .

Have to make room for some more frilly ones(didn't ever think I would say that ! Ha! ) guess "they ", whoever "they "are , are right ........Never say Never.

Sherry , Your Forbidden Desires is soooooo pretty . I really have to wonder if I have the correct plant . I dont recall mine having an edge like yours.

Perenn.all Love love love the look of your clump of Free Wheelin' .

Celeste .....too many of yours call out to me to list .I want me some of that dirt of yours !!! Whatever is in it appears to be just right for the daylilies.

Hoosiernan ......I was surprised to see how much alike Forestlake Becky and Forestlake Raggamuffin and Forestlake Laura Lee Harding are. All are fantastic If given the choice I would be hard pressed to pick just one .
