A dull front entry needs help

I assume I am a bit dull which is why my decorating isn’t all that inviting.

The front entry opens into our dining room which we don’t use very often. The chandelier is above the entry and matches another light fixture in the house.

We have heated tiles to dry out any mess left from winter boots but don’t have a rug since they will be ruined from the salt. The closet door and front aren’t the same size but both have been pushed back so hard that they folded the door stop against the wall so I am uncertain about what kind of wall hanging or art to put there. I am focusing on the entry right but suggestion for either the entry or dining room will be appreciated.

Don’t put yourself down like that! Judging by that cool light fixture you are not dull! ;) My immediate thought is a big colorful piece of canvas art. What kind of subjects and colors do you like? And how about some shoe storage in place of that bench? There are ones you can also sit on.

Definitely not dull. I like the light fixture also. You can put art on the wall, just get a door stop that mounts on the hinge so it stops the door from hitting the wall. They’re great because they don’t stick out into the room.

I had this hanging in another location in the house. Is this too small?

We have lots of storage for the shoes in the closet, my husband’s just don’t get there themselves so I just don’t notice them anymore. I will put them away for the next pictures though!!

Or you can just add shoe storage a the front door, something that would allow them to dry out.

I love the light and the wall hanging but they don't go together. I would do a large picture of your favorite place in a sparkely frame to match the light. A nice flower arrangement on your table too. Your entry is your first imoression so it should say something about you.

i don’t disagree with your comment about the light and the wall hanging. I have a question for you though. Why don’t they go together and does it really matter since they are really on separate floors and the only time a person really sees both is from the second floor standing at the railing looking down? I am not defending it just not sure what to do next short of taking your exact suggestion and looking online. That doesn’t make me more imaginative!

Is it the styles that don’t match? Why does the Greece picture or the painted flowers match better with the light. I hope that doesn’t sound like I don’t believe you, I hope it sounds like I am trying to learn a little about aesthetics!
