Curious about artificial turf.

I am told their are new variations of artificial turf/fake grass that feel nice to one's feet. Any resources to refer me to? Thx.

Artificial grass requires NO water, so I'm not sure what point you are making. I have a garden area on the downslope of my property, complete with walking path. I'd like a durable, non-water using substance for the small flat portion of my backyard so as to play ping-pong with my kids, but also soft to the feet ala grass.

if you look at the first sentence I think you will see what my point is. I would personally rather my children not play on petroleum products.. even if it doesn't require water. Most of the stuff I have seen is polymer made from oil. If you can find something that is a natural product then it might be a great idea

I just wiki'd it and I"m not so worried about the silicon but it does use ground up tires --you know how stinky hot tires are. And full of heavy metals Hadn't thought about it retaining heat either, but that's another way it's not like real grass. I don't know where you are, but if you're in a place where you can get buffalo grass, it uses 1/3 the water and needs very little maintenance. (It uses about the same until it's established). you mow once a year or maybe twice if you really like mowing. I have a large yard 5000 ft ^2 + --and I'm going to probably reduce it in half and put in buffalo grass. There are some new strains that get a darker green and stay green a little longer. but still grow slowly and require little water. just saying

dfsm - what can't I tell you about artificial turf? Check us out at www.easyturf.com or here on Houzz.
I will tell you there isn't an odor from our turf - it's very safe for kids (better than grass - think bugs, allergies, grass stains, mud ...) and is environmentally friendly.
Let me know what questions you have - I'm happy to help.
    Cheers!

Easy turf may sound nice. Fact remains its a petroleum product. It isn't natural. It's made from oil. It doesn't breathe or add anything environmentally valid to the world. Nice try though. Polypropylene and polyethylene. Polymers made from oil. Do you know what plasticizers are? Phthalates. Phthalates are why you don't heat food in the microwave in plastic containers. I bet you any money easy turf is loaded with them. All plastics are. They are health hazards. Says the chemist. Of the product sales dude

Hi, dfsm, did you end up going with artificial grass? Indeed, some new variations, such as our product Cashmere, are extremely soft to the touch. Not only that, many of them are indistinguishable from real grass, and they don't turn brown during the winter (like buffalo grass does) or require maintenance. If you're still shoppin' around, let us know if we can offer some assistance, or just visit us at www.globalsynturf.com.
