What color Garage doors?

Having a hard time deciding what color garage doors to use. Our house is on a corner lot, so the garage doors face the street! Don’t wanna make the wrong choice!!
The lighting in these pictures are all different: the brick is an off white color, roof is rustic black, windows are bronze.

Thanks in advance :)

Match the brick (I think it is), siding, roof, or use wood doors.

    Same as the cream brick

great looking house and perfect for wood or wood look doors. second choice would be black

or one like this, painted in the same color as the brick.

If you can afford to put in stained wood doors, they make a home look so rich. Especially I think white houses look amazing with wood doors. Nice place.

I was kinda thinking wood doors? But I always second guess myself!

Should I do a dark walnut color?

    And thank y’all very much!!

I think it should be the same as the columns on the front porch

    Hunter Orange.

Mark, that would certainly be the talk of the neighborhood.

This is why I like wood doors... the color of the roof or dark doors look like big holes. White is okay but a little blah. Wood doors through...they make the look of the house IMHO... :)

    See . . . the orange makes a statement.

that’s the color I’ve been looking for! The orange! Haha.

Wow thanks for the drawings rawketgirl! That really helps a lot!!

I like all of them actually! never thought I’d get hung up on garage door color
  • 7 years ago
Rawketgrl - I completely agree with you. I feel like doing the same color as the brick will be too plain. The wood is probably my best bet!

Personal choice but did you consider glass? We have glass and black anodized aliminium frames for our front garages; never need painting.

Never make the garage doors a visual contrast with the facade of the house unless you feel that the garage doors are the single, most important element of the entire house design.

Usually there are much more interesting architectural features to emphasize than a set of oversized and bulky garage doors.

Pinebaron - wow, those are beautiful. Love your house!!

I don't think we would be able to do glass doors - we are too close to the coast & have a lot of Windstorm guidelines we have to follow. But those are gorgeous!

Virgil Carter - So you think they should be the same color as the brick?

Yes, I do. Or if not the same color, a color of a similar value and color family.

Totally agree with the fine art pro. I’m just not a fan of making garage doors a big focal point on a house. And I don’t see wood anywhere else on your house to have it tie in and make sense.

Wood doors are going to require a lot more maintenance. Black doors could turn the garage into a solar oven, depending on sun exposure, climate. As well as constantly looking like they need a wash.

I would go with doors that are the same color as the brick.

I cannot imagine why anyone would choose to call attention to their garage doors. They're garage doors, not the entrance to the house! Make them the same color as your brick so they disappear. Put your efforts and attention to your entrance.

what about bronze to match your windows

Garage doors come in the same finishes the windows do.

Beautiful home! Would you mind sharing your exterior paint color? I'm looking for a creamy white and yours is beautiful

I'm with those who think emphasizing garage doors is . . . not a good idea.

There doesn't seem like there is going to be enough other wood trim on the house to make wood doors a reasonable option (and by "wood", I mean looks like wood, since real wood would be a maintenance headache).

Matching the roof colour might also be a functional nightmare depending on which direction the doors face. Black paint and southern exposures are a no, no.

Style-wise, glass and aluminum, although practical, is definitely not the right look for this house.

Hu- thank you!! it’s actually not painted. The brick is white hillstone by meridian brick.

I wanted the look of painted white brick - so we got pretty close.

Kristint1448. Don't be misled. We are only a few hundred yards from the sea. Our garage doors are reinforced since each is 18' wide; these use heavy duty commercial grade track and commercial duty steel rollers and hardware, tempered glass to withstand severe wind speeds and pressures. The glass doors are extremely strong and very heavy and are rated for over 120mph wind and pressures. Each door is moved with heavy duty wall mounted wifi openers; the whole mechanism is quiet and smooth. As usual I do an incredible amount of research, selecting anything to meet and usually exceed my design specifications.

Missi Smith: Message me for details. I'm not supposed to endorse any particular brand if I can help it.
