A new door in the same style would fit the house. In the meantime, have you already installed a new door sweep or new weatherstripping in the gap?

I like the color and style of the current door, but would omit the glass inserts.

Lovely home. Larger shutters that fit the windows would be great. Paint the 'side light' shutters on either side of the door the same color as your house

I really like the box window placed on your board and batten gable. Maybe it would look less plain if the window frames were painted black.

I agree that larger shutters might look better on the windows. Shutters should, in theory, be big enough to cover half the window when closed...like proper functioning shutters! Which it why it always looks a little silly to see small shutters on big windows.

I think the window above your front door looks top heavy, but you can balance it out with some styling below. I don’t mind the shutters next to your door because it makes the doorway look wider. I would add some nice tall/narrow evergreen style potted trees on each side of the door and a big doormat to anchor the front entrance and take the attention away from the big window above.

If you buy a new front door, don’t get a mortise lock set if you have any interest in a keypad type of lock or a smart lock. They don’t work with mortise locks (as I have unfortunately discovered)

Also, some bigger sconces next to your door might look nice and make more impact. A style of sconce where the light bulb is a little lower if possibles.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! Our garage door is just basic white, no windows or anything! I’d love a new one, but the current one is fine for now :) we usually put big pots (gray) on either side of the door, but since the holidays just ended this is a strange “in between time”

Not sure about the bigger shutters, does anyone have a photo of what that looks like? I agree that we are in need of some new shutters

Here is one of the color combos I was thinking about (shutters + front door combo) not sure what color we would do for the siding!!

For bigger shutters - look at ones that are the height of the window and half the width of the window.

What color is your roof?

Siding color should be picked 1st and should look great with the roof.

2nd is Trim color, then accessory color.

I think the white centre section should be a dark gray/slate colour. Same for around the garage door probably.

why don't you look into doing a small portico over the front door? it will lend some interest to that overhang portion. you could also do something w/a copper roof, like shown on this home:

as for the door with side lites (which would look so much better than those vertical shutters) look on Craigslist to see if anyone is selling one. check Lowes to see if any one failed to pick up their special order front door. (that's how we got ours. An 1800 dollar door/side lites for less than half price. )

from the inside, you'll get more lighting too.

in the scheme of things, the door w/the sides won't be that much more money, but you will have it for a very long time. don't skimp.

Hi everyone! Checking in again! Our issue with getting side lights is that if we do that, they have to temporarily shore the house (bear the whole weight of our home on some 2x4s) so they can install a new header. That’s the only way we can get side lights or have a larger door (this would also require rewire of electricity, removal/reinstall of crown molding indoors and removal of a cabinet we have attached to the wall in our front entryway. Our front hallway leading up to the door is very narrow and from the end of the hall, you would only be able to see one (at most) of the side lights- does this change anyone’s mind about the sidelights?? So appreciate all of the feedback so far! Here’s a photo looking down our hallway

I love the color of your door. I hope you keep that on the new door. I'd like to see the house in all white. Maybe navy shutters. I would do as was suggested above and paint the shutters next to the door the color of the house if they cannot be removed.

It doesn't change my mind . It's not the view from the end of the hallway that counts .

P.s. I would paint the front area the same color as the house ..the white makes it look top heavy ...for no good reason ..I would like to see a colored door .....red comes to mind or same as the shutters ...? And the front door needs accessories ..maybe wider steps ..or a little area for out door chair or chairs ..beautiful house !
