Living room help

We moved into our house a little while ago and focused on most of the other rooms, then Christmas happened and now I’m left with a blank living room. I don’t have the budget to change the furniture but am looking for accent decor (rug/shelves/artwork/etc) I’m struggling with both layout and overall decor and the idea of an accent wall. I’d like to stick with blue/grey/white colour scheme. The red chandelier is NOT staying. (We have the new light just trying to figure out how to replace it. )

I honestly tried my best to help you but in your case you need a good designer but I’m commenting only so your question goes up and maybe someone can help

I’ve looked at your info several times but don’t see an obvious solution. I think your best bet is to clear everything out, get someone strong to help you, and then put back the big stuff, trying it in every possible position.

I agree with Rachel....I don't see an obvious solution. The only thing that would work, might be if you put your TV in the window...not ideal but then your couch could go where the TV is. OR Another thing...is there room for your TV where your loveseat it? Sort of cattywomplus in that corner by the stairs? That might work, then your loveseat could go in the window and your couch where the TV is now. Not sure you need both of the chairs but one could be put where the desk is by the half wall. With some slim chair-side tables, a lamp or two and a rug, it will be cozy. A very hard room, though could be very nice.

I agree, difficult because of the french doors and scale of furniture. i think a 8x10 rug, turn the coffee table the other way and move the loveseat closer to make an L and place the Side table in between. Then move the lititle hutch under your staircase. Also maybe move the wooden chair and replace with a nice taller plant

Thanks everyone! This room became the catchall of the "leftover" furniture. Everything doesn't need to stay, though we need seating for 6 and I'd like to keep the tv. I'll play around and see what I can come up with. The loveseat and sofa are over sized for the space (though comfy.) Appreciate all the feedback!!

It looks like the loveseat will fit inside of the window alcove. Then put the couch with it's back to the entry and pony wall. This will make the couches in an L shape.

Look for a rug that incorporates the colors you want to use. That will help you get started on the accessories. How much will the front door be used? Is that the only access to the stairs? The amount of traffic going through there will help determine the best layout.

Front door is main door. That is the only access to stairs. But yes! I think a rug will help "ground" the room... then I can build with that.

Here are a few configurations we tried shortly after we moved in... The French Doors need to stay open now, due to the Heat Pump providing the majority of the heat for that level.

I think erinsean's ideas are worth trying. Also, put the dropleaf desk under the mirror in the entry. Keep us posted!

I like the first configuration better it all make sense now

    Yup, first photo wins

Let's back a bit. Kimberly said that the French Doors need to stay open. Any reason those doors can't go away? Think we need to see more of the wall opposite the fireplace. A detailed, scaled floor plan would be VERY helpful.

I feel like I'm missing something here. No one knows how to help you, but you already helped yourself when your sofas were in the L-configuration. Put them back that way, open the French doors all the way and put the wing chair facing the corner where the sofas meet, and lose the rocker.

Get a rug that holds the front feel of all the seating. That will tie it all together.

Here's a rug and some mud cloth pillows to go with. I couldn't actually move your chair, so I opened the door and drew a black rectangle on the floor where I'd put it. I'd also replace the curtains with ones that go all the way to the floor.

Thank you everyone for your input. I played with configurations tonight and currently have it in the L shape. I forgot I had those pictures until today (which is why’ve I shared them today.) I don’t love how it closes the room from the entrance, but I’ll leave it for a few days. I may try the tv in the corner by the stairs as was suggested a few times. I couldn’t do that alone tonight. :) Again, appreciate getting the 2nd opinions from everyone. My husband is the type that says he doesn’t care but doesn’t hold back when he doesnt like it. I know once I get the room styled he’ll like it, he doesn’t do well in the in between stage. :)
