New bathroom in progress...

last modified: 7 years ago

Soon after moving in 6 months ago, our second floor bath started leaking into the first floor bath. What a delightful surprise! Long story short, we’re getting a new bathroom. It should be done within the next two weeks. Here are the elements in my eclectic old house bathroom.

The floor tile, and the wood sample in the center background is the vanity wood (dark brown oak matches the dark brown accent in tile).

Style of vanity, but it will be in dark brown oak.

This is the shower tile. Hard to tell here but the blue is the same as the blue in the floor tile.

Faucet. (Towel bar and robe hooks are also polished chrome.)

Counter top is this creamy quartz with brown veining.

Light fixtures in bronze finish.

This old rustic cabinet is more blue than it appears in this pic. It will store towels and sheets and other bathroom stuff, as we don’t have a linen closet.

I intentionally mixed the metal finishes and the shiny vs rustic elements, but now I’m looking for a couple finishing touches to bring it all together. I had an idea that I could put a plant in a container that featured a shiny silvery finish combined with bronze, if that makes sense — it could go on top of the cabinet (which is just 5’ tall). Haven’t found it yet. Also thought I might get a small bench/stool to put under the window — I had a vanity stool with chrome legs in my cart at Home Goods yesterday — the seat was white vinyl but I thought I could recover it with a vintagey fabric. I didnt end up getting it, tho. Other ideas?

I’ll be hanging three framed photos by DH (all birds) on one wall. There’s not much room to hang anything else on the walls.

Looks lovely Sue, how exciting for you. Do you recall maker of the blue shower tile?

Beautiful. This makes me want to renovate a bathroom. I look forward to seeing the finished room.

    I love your choices.

Wait until all the hard elements are in, then work on your accessories. You might find you don’t need much.

A very serendipitous leak if it leads to this bath remodel! Love your choices. Have not seen any kind of container mixing bronze and shiny silver but it could be out there - I tend to stay away from shiny so likely wouldn't notice. What kind of light do you get in the room or are you thinking artificial plant?

PS Local — “Rustica Lake” is the color name.

Thank you all! I had to make a lot of decisions in a short span of time — and we hadn’t planned to touch this bathroom (even tho it was ugly) for a couple years — so in the last few days I’ve been having a few moments of panic wondering if it’s all going to work. Thanks for the encouragement!

Love your choices. Seems like it is all so fitting with your new house. And not just white everything like so many others these days.

love your choices. Second the recommendation to wait until the fixed elements are are in to accessorize.

Love all the elements, but that encaustic floor tile really is the star, and is going to pull it all together. I especially like the century melding you have going on in there.

Sue, it looks wonderful. I'm getting ready to start two bathroom renos, one at a time of course. Did you use a bath designer? Just wondering how you pulled it all together. TIA

Arapaho, no bath designer, just me. We aren’t changing the layout at all, just replacing everything after fixing the stupid leak!

I do work part time as a decorator so I have some background in pulling things together. I started with the floor tile, then shower tile and built from there.

Thank you! Can't wait to see it finished :)

Your choices are spot on, Sue. I would expect nothing less from you, with your keen eye for design!

This is going to be wonderful! I am following and hoping for progress pictures.

Great tile! Psst ... im glad you had the leak if you hated the old bath!

The tiling is excruciatingly slow...one guy, day 3.

That blue tile--yummy!!! I can't wait to see this all done:)

Sue is that red your waterproofing membrane?

DLM... I don't know. I do know that on day one, when there was only a little tile and a lot of red splashed on the walls in there, it looked like a murder scene.

    LOL!

Oh, that is such a pretty shower. I love the color and texture of the tile. It's going to look fabulous.

Floor progress! Tile is taking eons but supposed to be done by Tues., then the rest should come together quickly.

Looks like your tiler did a beautiful job - was he difficult to find?

Thank you! Our contractor lined up the tile guy. Very good work but seemed to take forever!

Same guy did our powder room floor.
