Sloped Ceilings

Need advice on how to begin decorating this room I will be renting. I feel like the color of the carpet and walls is totally hideous, the yellow lighting is definitely not helping in the slightest, I will change the bulb to white light soon, but I cannot paint the room a different color and would prefer to put as few holes in the wall as possible.

I have not bought furniture yet so I came here first to hear suggestions. I am on a low budget as I am hoping to save money for extensive trips further in the year. My initial thoughts are to place the bed under the far-sloped ceiling with fabric canopy under the wall and to build a rudimentary shelving system with cinder blocks and wooden planks under the sloped ceiling closer to the door in a way that offsets the ceiling which hopefully leaves the side of the room with normal ceiling space open for a desk or dresser.

Will hear any suggestions, staying up way too late pondering this one.
