How are you doing up in the northeast?

I'm hearing tales of 30 and 40 below wind chills, and record breaking cold! How are you all doing back there? Since my son and daughter are in school in Chicago and NYC, I follow the weather there, and yikes, it got really cold last week! Hope you and the plants are doing well!

Just HORRIBLE!! For a young guy!

My bones creek, I'm truly depressed, I have no motivation and I am still living in the dark. The only bright side is that my trees don't seem to mind it like I do and I am not the only one suffering with which seems like the longest amount of time without warmth, sunshine and a lack of Vitamin D.

Hopefully many here are doing better then I.

Gosh, Mike!! Sending you hugs from sunny California! Do you have a happy lamp? I got my daughter one, even though she says Chicago stays brighter than most places up in the snow belts! I hear it really helps with the endless dark and cold blues! Here's a happy picture from this morning for you!

Sadly, we have no more rain expected for a month, so things are going to get tinder dry soon! Would gladly take some of that snow and rain from you!

We have had no snow in coastal NJ this Winter so far..., all the snow is to the north and the west. Storms have been consistently tracking inland (not off the coast), and this bring in copious amounts of heavy rainfall and then the temps drop to subarctic levels. The only measurable snow that did fall was back in November and it was a DISASTER zone! Towns were COMPLETELY unprepared for the 5 inch snowfall and it was as though this were happening in MIAMI with plenty of finger pointing to go around! Now, the roads are always covered in SALT and it only rains.

Have flood watches all over the Northeast for the next heavy rainfall event tomorrow. Going to be problems as water tables are HIGH, rivers are HIGH, etc..., but between the rain and melting, and ice jams... (Rainfall has been running well above average for months now. My front lawn is now dead from saturated ground.) Monday was the worst in terms of the cold when we bottomed out at 5 above (which is the minimum for zone 7b), and highs were only in the teens and the WINDS were ridiculous!

My Citrus overwinter in a detached garage and I constantly monitor their temps from inside my home. So far, so good. No losses. I don't mind some snow and some cold, but enough of the meteorological drama of extreme weather already! When there is some snow on the ground, those clear days are astoundingly bright (including in my house!), and I find the dull, overcast days bother me more than some cold and some snow. Overall though, it does feel as though winters are shorter than they used to be..., despite those arctic outbreaks.

Not a normal winter yet but what else is new?!
