Hosta P 2018 ....

I was watching 'This Old House' yesterday and they were showing a recent backyard redo. The owner already had a hosta bed started. A proper garden.

Show me some Ps today:

Laura beautiful pictures. Here are my P's

Pandora's Box, last summer it even bloomed twice!

Paradigm, I took the all green sport out and planted it elsewhere. I like how it looked in the clump.

I think this is Paul's Glory, I purchased it before I was keeping track of the names.

Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, new this year. So far I really love it.

Plantaginea from my Mom/Grandma's gardens. Always beautiful

Praying Hands, I like how it looks in this location but it is a slow grower for me, probably needs more sun.

  • mae (zone 5b On)

One day I hope to document my growing collection with a picture of plant, leaf, flower for each hosta. I've barely made a dent in that project! Here are a few...

Laura, Peren. and Beth I always enjoy your postings! Can't wait for my plants to mature a bit more...most haven't been quite ready for photos.

Beth, I've been told/have read that Praying Hands does best in pot. Don't know if that's correct or not.

Not sure why, but lots of P’s Peren, Powder Blue and Powder keg are wonderful.

mae beautiful flower pics. The alphabet is responsible for me taking an over abundance of pics! I am sure it will become almost as much of an obsession for you as the rest of us. Having immature plants has never stopped me from posting them and I hope you will add yours! Well I did not post my potted Purple Flush lol!

  • Beth (5b - Mid-Michigan)

Mae, I will try Praying Hands in a pot this year. Thanks for the advise.

    Pineapple Upsidedown Cake..
    Plantaginea..no close ups Ha!..
Praying Hands..new with stones to stop the squirrels..they STILL tried..I found the stones moved around a few times..
a Patriot?..moved from the front..from the previous homeowner..they might not all "match"..
Paul's Glory?..should I stop posting my best guesses?..I don't want to be annoying..

Sherry..I'm so jealous of your oakleaf hydrangea!..mine has zero blooms :-(

  • don_in_colorado

Prairie Sky with some apparent streaking going on.

  • sherrygirl zone5 N il

Nicholsworth, that hydrangea is Ruby Slippers, it’s the only oak leaf I’ve managed to keep going. It’s a smaller, fuss free one, gets some sun.

old_dirt, lovely photos. I'm questioning your label for Paradigm. Is there a chance that one is something else? Mine has never had wavy leaves.

  • hostas_for_barb

I wonder where that hosta garden is. So many hostas!!
Like that lounging snowman. People are so creative.

Laura what are those blue flowers in your first pic? Are they really a blue turquoise color? Are they poppies?

peren.all, I gasped when I saw your Praying Hands. So pretty when it's big like yours. I wish mine would leap already. It barely grows.

sunnywood, nice Parisian Silk. I didn't get a good pic of mine this year. Also, Popcorn is very slow for me, too.

ConnieMay, what a beautiful Pineapple Upsidedown Cake you have!

Karin, I like the photo of Phoenix. It makes me want to take a stroll down that path.

Don, good to see you still have that beautiful Prairie Sky which is so nice it's in the HL.

Saija, what is the bright yellow one behind Pete's Dark Satellite?

old_dirt, your hostas and gardens are sure looking good this year.

    donna & mbug, beautiful Patriots.

Now that I got all the way through, I see a lot of you have good looking Praying Hands. Mine doesn't get its pic in the alphabet this year, runt that it is.

Parhelion in a wild area of my garden. Deer pass by this one all the time. So far they ignore it.

  • Laura z4b / Helsinki, Finland

@sandyslopes, blue flowers are from Himalayan blue poppy, a perennial, stunning color, I just love it!

  • Saija

Nicholsworth: yes Paradise Joyce reminds June . They are both from Halcyon.

Sandylopes: Yellow one behind Pete's Dark Satellite is Chiquita.

  • don_in_colorado

Parky's Prize, bottom left, with Sugar & Spice and Guacamole

  • sandyslopes z5b n. UT

Laura, that color of the Himalayan Blue Poppy really catches the eye. They must not be easy to grow or more people would have them. I would have them, lol. It's very pretty in your garden!

Saija, oh, it's Chiquita. I see you showed yours in the alphabet. It's a nice, bright yellow in spring! I'm looking for more yellows, but I wish they would stay yellow the whole season.

  • newhostalady Z6 ON, Canada

    Great looking hostas everyone!

    Paul's Glory #2

Prairie Moon. This hosta really impressed me this year. It really attracted my attention. Maybe that's because it was next to Clear Fork River Valley which set off the coloring of each. Great substance too.

  • windymess z6a KC, Ks

Wow Steve - that's a really big Prairie Sky... or at least it looks pretty big in the photo. I'm convinced mine is a dud and that I should start over with that one.

  • steve duggins - Ohio

I found a pot full of eyes in 2017 that I couldn't pass up. So it started pretty big. There is a little space between it and the house that may make it look a little bigger.

    with Kiwi Full Monty

  • sunnywood 5aChazyNY

Steve ,how much light does your Prairis Sky get?

  • steve duggins - Ohio

Hardly any. It's on the NNE side of the house with Holly Bushes to the East, so nothing after 12:30 and little to nothing before. Just a little dappled then direct overhead sunlight for less than an hour. You can see it up against the house on the right side,

Here it is end of June.
