Wait until fall. Peonies are not like annuals or perennials whose flowers develop later in the season. The roots that will feed the plant during the summer are developed into the soil. If you dig and move in the spring your peonies will need live off of the current root tissue because few new roots will develop until cool weather starts next fall.

Peonies are not a plant for people who constantly rearrange their gardens.

Transplant setback aside, is it okay though ? I know it's not the ideal time . It will be dug/moved come late winter/early spring.

I have planted peonies in all seasons of the year but since you are just moving them because you want to be aware that IF blooming stalks are on the roots you may have bloom this year but probably not for three years if moved now. The nutrients that will be used to keep the plant alive will come from the roots. Means no stems that will bloom will be formed this year. So no blooms next year and it takes a year or more depending on the cultivar to become established enough to make additional.

You have to decide do you want blooms or do you want only foliage.

Blooms. I think last year, it felt like I only got a solid week - 10 days at most on the blooms. Heavy rains, etc, and it was all foliage for the remainder of the season

If you are expecting anything more than perhaps a week of bloom and foliage the rest of the year I would suggest that peonies are not the plant that you should be investing your time. For some a week is an excellent length of time for individual bloom.

Heh, I hear you on Bloom time. Love the blooms. Just wish it was longer across the board on all peonies.
