Black, or dark, tiles will show water spots more but they'll hide grim. White, or light, tiles are the opposite. They hide water spots but show grim. Most people go for light tiles because they'd rather see where they really need to clean, plus dark tiles can really suck the light out of the bathroom if not done correctly.

Consider a medium grey for the floor. Still goes with the modern farmhouse vibe but is easier to maintain.

I have QDI "The Rock" black 3" x 3" porcelin tiles on my shower floor. They are more light a charcoal grey with some variation in texture and color, rather than a straight black. We have a whole house water softener and we do not get visible water spots, but I'm not sure if we would without the softener. I clean them the same as I clean the rest of the porcelain tiles in the shower. We run the exhaust fan and haven't experienced any gunk or grime so far. I think a good fan helps with that. Dark shower floor tiles look really nice IMO.

ssdarb do you mind if I ask what do you have for flooring color in your bathroom with the dark shower tile.

Sorry, just seeing this. Do you mean for the rest of the bathroom? Oddly, it's hardwood floors. They were here when we moved in 20 years ago, so we got used to them. In the remodel we decided to keep them instead of changing to tile.

Here are the shower tiles.

I did a honed black marble. the marble has an awesome sealer on it that beads water. clean up isn't a big deal.

this was right after resurfacing the stone (I used a harsh cleaner and it etched the marble. had to get it re-honed and sealed again)

I would suggest you using a matte black porcelain tile instead of marble. you can't use any harsh cleaners if you have marble.

how about a medium gray or gray/green porcelain? you could also do that off white that's in the shower tiles.

what's on the outside of the shower? will you be using the same tiles?

right now the bathroom is just drywall ! the first photo with marble like wall tile with the dark base was my inspiration photo. based on that color scheme in the shower, I was trying to pick out a flooring option and vanity color.

It's a really nice inspiration photo. What are you going to do for a vanity?

my cabinet guy is going to do a custom one for me. I'm debating between a wood toned one or maybe black with a light top. to have black also somewhere else in the bathroom. I think we're going to do a 60 inch vanity with one sink. as we like more counter space vs 2 sinks .

Or, have them make it in oak and stain it black. I did all my door and window trim (and my french doors) in a black aniline dye, and a gel stain in ebony. it's very black

this is all oak (door/trim) and it's all stained, no paint.

look at Basalt (when you enhance/seal, it gets a deeper black. I have basalt around my cement tiles on the wall)

I originally thought with that shower scheme to possibly continue my vinyl wood composite flooring (which is light) into the bathroom as well. Black vanity, light top. what does everyone think? and maybe painting it light or something with a bit of color. like Benjamin Moore tranquility

how about a black/white cement tile? or a marble basketweave?

maybe a sparkling quartz in gray or black, or a terrazzo tile?

I think you are all over the place. Black and a bit of it goes a looooong way. A black shower floor? Easy to keep clean with decent draining. Walls? NO.

And I wouldn't do a black vanity in a bath, unless it was a glossy laminate slab wall mount.

I have a RH black oak vanity. while it's not a deep, shiny black, it does show dust and such. If you do a dark vanity, make sure it's a slab front with no trim work for dust to get trapped.

ok so dark vanity is a bad idea I take it? what color of vanity and flooring would you suggest.

Michelle, dark isn't a bad idea if that's what you like. just don't get a vanity w/ornate trim that you will need a toothbrush to constantly keep clean.

get in the habit of wiping it down regularly and it won't be too hard to keep clean. make sure you have the best lighting in there if it appears a bit dark.

I think a walnut vanity would look great w/the calacatta.

I would do a simple carrara marble hexagon floor. 2" is standard, but a 4-5" would be nice. Check out Riadtile.comtI d luo wtI tIwI .

Maybe changing the shower floor to a smaller black hex or the matte porcelain subway tiles someone else posted would look better than two shapes like hex and the picture you posted.
