Cylindrical Range Hood Help

I am searching for a wall mounted or island cylindrical hood in brass or rose gold finish. It seems like stainless steel, black and white are very common but I can't find a company that makes this style in other finishes. Does anyone know where I could purchase or have a custom one made and shipped to America like to the ones in the images below?

If your kitchen is just for show then something like this will be fine. If you cook in your kitchen then you should know that this hood will perform quite poorly resulting in grease and odors in your house.

Those photos show very small cooktops so that the cylindrical hood fits. Or the last photo shows how it does not fit. If you have a 30" or 36" cooktop, the cylindrical hood won't cover that width. It will not only look proportionately and aesthetically off, but it won't work to exhaust your cooking for all burners.

Sometimes we fall in love with the gorgeous but bad boyfriend, and then learn that we'd be better off with the caring and just somewhat nice looking boyfriend.

Actually, you can get a Modern-Aire hood, and get both the gorgeous and caring boyfriend, in a canopy shape that will work. But it'll cost ya.

To answer the question, there is http://www.handcraftedmetal.com/ I'm sure that they can do brass as well as their other metal offerings. Take a tour of their website.

However, opaone is correct, a cylinder hood large enough for a 30-inch or 36-inch cooktop would be huge -- larger than the diagonal of the cooktop. Further, its shape is not conducive to standard baffle filters or even standard lighting schemes. Significant excess hood air flow and MUA air flow would be needed (factor of 4/pi) due to the intake aperture area being in excess of that needed to fit the cooking plume effluent cones from a rectangular-ish cooktop. It would be a big design project before it was a fabrication project.

If "round" is an important design feature of the kitchen, perhaps a hood exterior shape that looks like overlapping cylinders might support an interior quasi rectangular entry aperture. Even an existing hood insert could be used. The interior would be standard stainless steel and the exterior brass (if you can keep it shiny). An image clarifying this wasn't immediately obvious on the Internet, so if my suggestion is too obscure, I'll try to find or draw something.

if you want something like that I suppose you would have to have it custom made. y can try artofrain.Com or ventahood.Com . Or find a local ironworks craftsman who can do any custom order you can dream of.

Im attaching a pic of my satin brass hood that I have custom ordered through a local ironworks craftsman. He usually does custom stair railings window gates etc but can do anything with metal. He built the hood out of wood and covered with sheets of brass. It wasnt As pricey as expected

That "hood" isn't. It's decor for posers who don't even boil water.

GreenDesigns- LOL yes, it’s pretty, but not functional!

I had a custom hood made by Modern-Aire and I am very happy with it. I am lucky to be in Los Angeles so I was able to go to their factory to look at all the finishes they offered. I ended up choosing their Rustic Brass finish.

Most local appliance stores that are Modern-Aire dealers did not have a large selection of samples, so I suggest you look at their website and request any samples you think might work.

Unfortunately, Best stopped manufacturing all brass hoods (example). However, Faber makes three cylindrical hoods in its Iconic collection (none brass).

Louise, the inspiration photos are beautiful, especially kitchen 2! It’s a cute idea for a small kitchen with minimal cooking on the agenda. I’m thinking a tiny induction cooktop used to boil water for tea ;-) Very helpful discussion too. Pity it’s not practical.

Looks like a hood we can all agree has an adequate capture area for the job. Congratulations on your choice.

Unfortunately for brass lovers, the cult of home decorators decreed several years ago that brass is out. This led to lower sales and the disappearance of many brass hardware options. Fortunately, specialty fabricators still exist. Also, Rev-a-Shelf still supports brass items, although I think these are all plated.
