Tulips are very hardy so it is no problem there. As for Freesias and Calla Lilies it all depends on the temperature in your garage. That it is not-heated in zone 5 doesn't convey enough information. In general, in the ground, Freesias will not survive temperatures lower than a few degrees below 0 C, Calla Lilies are a little more hardy, but far from hardiness required for zone 5. Surviving in a container can be even more problematic.

I will refrigerate the tulip bulbs for 2 months and then pot up all together. Tulips, freesias and calla in order from bottom up - sounds right?

My first year of bulb or in fact any gardening, so bouncing off ideas just in case.

Calla will swallow the other two kinds, fill the pot.

I was thinking of the Zantedeschia kind that bloom in July. I tried to space out the blooming times so that each can grow individually in its time. Do you still see a issue?

I'm wondering why you plan to refrigerate the tulips if they're going to be in a cold garage anyway?

I have a 12” overhang and 10” prior to a remodel. I have found both adequate, but it may depend on how you plan to use your island. Our island is not out main dining area. I use it primarily for morning coffee, lunch by myself, seated prep work, working on my laptop, etc. It works fine for me, but I might possibly find myself with a different opinion if we ate family meals there.

windberry Thanks again. Giving up on this layering idea. Will plant tulips in ground this fall and seems freesias are not really for midwest. Will just try the callas this year :).
